New Diet – Week 3

I am head first into week 3 of my 90 day diet. I basically cannot eat any of the 40 foods that were reported as causing allergies or sensitivity. Once the 90 days are up, I can slowly integrate the foods back into my diet – one by one.
Just to give you a snapshot of what I’m working with here (or not working with) – I cannot eat the following items – get ready…
- Cow’s milk
- Eggs
- Cheese
- Brewer’s and Baker Yeast
- Wheat
- Mushrooms
- Banana
- Tomato
- Vanilla
…and there are 31 more but listing them just depresses me a bit. I do have to say though, I have lost 3 pounds and I feel more energized than before! My pooch from having the kiddies has gone down drastically (LOVE). I don’t know if eliminating these foods has helped with my sinuses (I’m not brave enough yet to stop taking my allergy medicine).
I have found some great replacements for no-no foods – almond milk is delicious! I have been eating a lot of whole foods – broccoli, sweet potatoes, carrots, cauliflower (cauliflower mash is delish – with garlic infused oil in lieu of butter – yummmm), grilled chicken, steak, tuna steak, tofu. It pains me sometimes to look across the table and see my husband’s french fries (white potato is another no-no), or my kids’ chocolate chip cookies; but then I think about the greater good!
I am like a kid in a candy store when I go to Whole Foods or the local supermarket and I find something that I can eat – air popped popcorn has always been a favorite of mine, edamame, Popcorners stave off my cravings for something crunchy. I did try Flackers – they are crackers made from flax seed and spices – I gave it my all but I couldn’t stand them (my personal opinion, I am sure there are people that like them). It was funny – my mom asked if I tried them yet and I hadn’t, so she opened the box and tasted one. Her response, with a straight face, was “They aren’t bad” so I figure I should try them (I loved the name Flackers). I took one bite and had to spit it out – that was when my mom said they did taste bad (thanks Mom!). My dad tried it and was like, “they aren’t bad”. A few minutes later he agreed with Mom and I.
Do you have any food allergies? If so what are you allergic to and what do you substitute for it?
