Pregnancy After Loss, Postpartum Anxiety & How To Persevere
Katy, the heart and mind behind Undefining Motherhood, a blog bringing to the forefront topics that we used to otherwise consider taboo. When asked why she chose “Undefining” in lieu of “Redefining”, this was her response:
“Because motherhood is a role that’s been defined for far too many centuries,” I say. “And often not even by mothers themselves. It’s been prescribed and defined and changed and redefined so much that I don’t understand how anyone can feel authentic in their experience of it anymore. Not to co-opt another movement that’s happening right now, but time’s up. It’s time to learn to do this authentically, not according to prescription. For years, I’ve studied the history and theory of how motherhood has been defined, prescribed, turned into an institution with a set of rules. And I’m sick of it. It’s time to put that knowledge into action.”
Join us as we chat with Katy about difficult topics such as pregnancy after loss, postpartum anxiety, and how we can most definitely persevere!

The Power of Sound with Catherine Barrett
Think about it…sound is one of those things that has a constant impact on us but we don’t consciously think about it much. For example, hearing a song from the past may bring up memories of the college days. Sound is pervasive. It’s out there; it’s continuous. We don’t think about it because we don’t need to, but it clearly has a constant effect on our minds and body. Join us on Thursday, March 25 at 7:00 pm EST as Catherine Barrett teaches us about Sound Baths – what occurs during a sound bath event, and most importantly the benefits (and there are quite a few!).
Catherine began her meditation journey seven years ago and has been committed to it ever since. In her own life, meditation has served as a healthy coping mechanism for everyday stressors, as well as a way to discover inner peace through mindfulness. She strongly believes it is one of the most profound forms of self-care and is deeply passionate about guiding each student on their own unique path to developing a practice that suits them. Two years ago, Catherine completed her teacher training in the Shamatha style of meditation and began instructing students privately. She also currently volunteers at Silver Hill Hospital, where she teaches meditation to the inpatient adolescent population and those in the Executive/Professionals Program. In addition to her certification in teaching meditation, she also recently completed her Reiki Master certification as well as Pranayama teaching training. She has lived the majority of her life in Connecticut, where she received a BS in Sociology from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.
