BEST South Florida Beaches by Personality
One of the first things my out-of-town guests ask when visiting is, “What are the best South Florida beaches?” What beach you visit, and we have many beaches in Palm Beach County, depends on your “beach personality”.
The Social Butterfly Type
Pack your sunscreen, some food and beverages, and head over to Peanut Island. You definitely will not be alone as this is a hot spot for people to lazily lounge on their floats tethered to their boats, hanging out on the sandbars, or getting in some quality time with friends walking along the trail around the island.
Delray Beach is definitely hopping with sun lovers! Located at the end of Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach is the perfect spot for a full-day beach adventure. Spend some time on the sand and then walk over to one of the many restaurants along US1 and Atlantic Ave. Pop into the boutiques for unique finds.
The Explorer
If you are looking for a beach that isn’t super crowded, head over to Gulfstream Park. Named after the nearby current, snorkelers can find interesting sea life floating by as they enjoy this South Florida ocean.
Ocean Reef Park is another must-go for snorkelers. Explore the reef in the lifeguarded area and make note of the creatures you find! Ocean Reef also offers free parking, restrooms, showers, and a boardwalk – perfect for early morning or late afternoon strolls.
Carlin Park in Jupiter is known for its walking trails. Stop at some of the different exercise stations and turn your walk into a full workout!
One more beach to note is John D. Macarthur Beach State Park. There is so much to do there from fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and visiting the educational nature center.
The Sun God/Goddess
If you’re the type that loves to relax in the South Florida sun, then head over to Oceanfront Park in Boynton Beach. You will not have to lug chairs and umbrellas to this location as you can rent cabanas and beach chairs by the hour or for the full day. I especially like that they offer free beach wheelchairs and many spots for disabled visitors.
Palm Beach is quieter than some of the neighboring beaches – perfect for someone that just wants to chill out and relax with a good book or take a siesta!
The Dog Lover
If your four-legged friend comes along for the vacation, you have to check out Juno Beach. Even if you don’t have your dog by your side but are a dog lover, I recommend visiting as it is known as one of the best South Florida dog beaches. It is so much fun to watch the dogs run into the ocean, chase the waves, and meet new furry friends along the way.
Family-Friendly Beaches
Families have a blast at Lake Worth Beach. They feel at ease because there is a lifeguard on duty every day. Want to take a break from the sun? Head over to the playground for some energy-exerting jungle gym fun! Parking is aplenty as are the options within walking distance to grab a bite to eat at the Lake Worth Casino Building and Beach Complex.
Gulfstream Park also has playground equipment onsite, perfect for the little ones. Bring a picnic lunch for the whole family or take advantage of the barbecues and picnic tables.
