Sunday Funday – What to Serve for a Football Party!

Last Sunday can definitely be classified as “Sunday Funday” because we invited some friends over to celebrate Sunday football with a fun football party.  As you may already know, my hubby and I enjoy entertaining – especially around Halloween and the winter holiday months.  I’m usually the one that does the backend planning (invitations, decorations, etc.) while R takes over in the food and beverage department.  This time though, I wanted to incorporate a really cool dessert that I felt meshed well with the football theme.  Stay tuned to learn more about that later.

Football Party Time!

Knowing that the kids were going to be spending the bulk of their time outside in the pool, we set up an extra TV on the patio so they can splash and watch the games at the same time.  I picked up a few decorations at the Dollar Tree (totally scored on these…).

SUNDAY FUNDAY APPETIZERS

What are the first few food items that comes to mind when you think of football?  For appetizers, we served:

  • Tortilla chips and popcorn
  • Two different salsas (one mild, one medium)
  • Guacamole (I could eat alone with a spoon, my fave!)
  • Spinach and artichoke dip
  • Corn salsa
  • Mozzarella cheese sticks (a favorite finger food for the kids!)

SUNDAY FUNDAY MAIN COURSE

There were so many options to choose from, so we opted for:

  • My all-time favorite smoked chicken wings
  • Slow cooker brisket sliders – I definitely need to post this recipe soon.  They were SO good! sunday funday football party brisket sliders
  • Gluten-free macaroni and cheese (you’d never know the difference between this version and the “gluten” version)sunday-funday-football-party-mac-and-cheese-gluten-free
  • Broccoli salad

SUNDAY FUNDAY DESSERT TIME!

This is by far my favorite course and the highlight of the day!  We could’ve done the usual everyday dessert, but I wanted to do something special for my guests.  The first thing that came to mind was Baskin Robbins’ Polar Pizza.  I was first introduced to their new menu option at BlogHer this summer and loved the concept of ice cream that eats like a pizza (like we didn’t need another reason to eat ice cream!).  I tried the cookie dough Polar Pizza when I was there, and opted for the Peanut Butter ‘n Chocolate and Reeses® Peanut Butter Cup Polar Pizza.  If you are a Reeses® fan, you NEED to try this.  The crust was a huge brownie with Peanut Butter n’ Chocolate ice cream, topped with Reeses® peanut butter cup pieces and peanut butter sauce and fudge topping.

I had to hold off the kids from grabbing a piece before I could properly cut it – with my pizza wheel of course!

I couldn’t cut the pizza fast enough and had people asking for seconds – note to self…buy more than one!  Each pie serves about 8 people, depending on their appetite and love for all things delicious.

In case you were wondering, the Polar Pizza comes in a few flavors – Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Jamoca® Almond Fudge and Heath, the Reeses® one I got and OREO® Cookies and Cream.  You can also, which I found very cool, custom make your own Polar Pizza – you pick the crust, ice cream flavor and toppings.  All ordering can be done online (even cooler and super convenient) but remember to give at least 24 hours notice when ordering.

I now have another great dessert option to being to friend’s houses when we’re invited for dinner, as well as a fun and different birthday cake.
