7 Ways to Mindfully Reflect on Your Career and Find Happiness

When you find yourself at a crossroads in your career, there are a number of different things you can do to ensure you don’t get stuck at a dead end. Taking the time to mindfully reflect on your current situation can put you in a strong position for the future and give you a chance to find true happiness. Whether you want to set a good example for your child, or you’re hoping to find more balance with regards to your home life and career, you need to discover what’s right for you at this moment in time. The following seven suggestions will give you the tools and ideas you need to mindfully reflect on your career and find true happiness.

Take a Test

When you’re unsure about your future and career prospects, there are a number of different things you can do to validate your feelings and instincts. One of the most effective actions you can take is taking a test such as the Interest Inventory evaluation. With this assessment, your interests, education, current career and preferred leisure activities will all be considered, and it will help you to discover what you’d enjoy doing the most. Your answers may bring about some extremely interesting results, so it’s definitely worth giving this test a try!

Write Down Your Pros and Cons

If you’re in a career that doesn’t spark joy in you at this point in time, then you may want to write down a list of pros and cons. There may be certain aspects of your career that you do enjoy, such as flexible hours or working remotely. However, as soon as you pinpoint the elements of the job you don’t like, it will be much easier for you to pursue a career that feels fulfilling and exciting to you. Taking all of the best parts of your current job will help you to carve out a career that instantly feels more aligned to your personal preferences.

Journal on Your Future Dreams

Allowing yourself to dream big with no boundaries at all will ultimately help you to achieve your future dreams above and beyond what you’d imagined. Pull out your favorite journal and write down exactly what you see yourself doing in five years time. What does your ideal day look like? What are your surroundings? Who are you with? Painting this vision will quickly help you to pinpoint what you really want from your career.

Explore How Your Career Has Benefitted You So Far

Your current job may have equipped you with skills and experience to enter a new career path smoothly. Writing down all of the benefits of your current career will ultimately help you to decide what type of job you’d be most suited to in the future. Whether you’ve honed in on your communication skills or you’re an excellent team leader, it’s important to consider all of these transferable skills for your future.

Consider Work Life Balance and Your Children

When it comes to raising kind, intelligent and well-rounded children, you shouldn’t have to give up your career. Finding a happy medium and a good work life balance will ultimately give you more freedom and enjoyment when it comes to your career. Finding a career that allows you to do this, should be your ultimate goal.

Be Strong to Escape from Toxic Environments

There is nothing worse than feeling stuck in a toxic working environment. You need to feel uplifted and inspired when you go to work everyday, so don’t be afraid to walk away from your current job if you aren’t being supported.

Don’t Be Afraid to Start Again

Starting from the bottom again is a scary prospect, but it’s an exciting adventure that could bring about a number of opportunities to you. There is no shame in scrapping your current career, wiping the slate clean  and embarking on a brand new adventure. Climbing the ladder may feel scary at first, but it will ultimately allow you to get to where you want to be in the future.

Hopefully, with these ideas and tools at your disposal you will feel confident to mindfully reflect on your career and explore your future in an open and honest way. There is no shame in reassessing your career and wanting a new start, in fact this is extremely positive. Wanting more for yourself is an important part of self-care, so if you can take small steps to achieving everything you want, you will soon be able to find true happiness.

SATURDAYS ARE FOR STELLA ❤️

Oh, hello there 👋 in case you’re new to my feed, this is Stella. She is an almost 3 year old goldendoodle from Stella, NC. No, we didn’t name her Stella because of the city she was born in. That was a complete coincidence!

She goes by many names - Stella, Stelladoodle, Stu Diddy, Stu, and Moose. Don’t ask 😂 (and whether she responds to any of those names is completely up to her.)

She’s finally graduating the puppy stages (I hope), but it is known that if you’re over and
👟you leave your shoes unattended
👜bag open
🧦socks on the floor
🧻towels in reaching distance to her counter surfing
🏃‍♀️🏃🏃‍♂️you’ll be running circles around the house after her. Don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉

Today we celebrated the life of Heather McMechan, someone I am eternally grateful came into my life, and devastated has left this earth. The church was filled with people that loved her - not one person that crossed her path couldn’t NOT love her.

Forever in my heart ❤️
