5 Halloween Tips and Tricks Plus a Super Cool Treat!

*I was sent two complimentary gifts from Dylan’s Candy Bar in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are 100% my own.

The countdown has begun in our home.  T-minus 16 days until Halloween, the day that my boys can dress up and run around the neighborhood collecting CANDY.  It’s their dream day.  This holiday, amongst others, can get a bit expensive when you add up the cost of costumes, decorations, and candy.  Here are 5 Halloween tricks to enjoy this holiday on a budget.

5 Halloween Tips and Tricks Plus a Super Cool Treat!

Make Your Own Costume

A great way to save money and have the most unique costume is to create your own.  You’d be surprised what you can put together with what is in your closet.

  • Have a white sheet that you don’t use much?  Cut out holes for your eyes and mouth and you are an instant ghost!
  • Put on black leggings and a black t-shirt.  Take an old pair of black tights, cut one leg off, stuff it with old socks and pin to your bottom.  Using black eyeliner, create whiskers and literal cat eyes.  Use pink lipstick to create a pink nose.  Pick up a pair of cat ears at your local costume store OR cut out two triangles from construction paper and adhere it to a black headband.  Meow!
  • Take that same white sheet mentioned above and wrap it creatively around yourself.  Wear a pair of cute flip flops or gladiator sandals, and you are a makeshift Grecian.

Plan Early – Very Early

Plan on hitting the Halloween stores, Target, Walmart or any other store that stocks Halloween costumes and decorations – check out online too!  You’ll be able to find great deals for the coming year.

Homemade Party Games

Having a party and looking for some fun games for the kids?  Try this fun idea:

  • Repurpose things around the house to create a scary guessing game.  Set up small brown paper bags filled with “scary” household things.  Cooked spaghetti could be labeled as brains or snakes; grapes or olives as eyeballs; jelly or pudding in a ziplock bag as a heart or liver.  Blindfold the party guest and have them squeal with grossness!

Treat Your Guests to a Trick or Two

I love this idea and it is super inexpensive!  Grab a bag of plastic bugs from your local dollar store.  Clean them well and then place them with water into an ice cube tray.  Check out the faces when they realize what’s in their beverage!

Four Funny Pranks for the Trick-or-Treaters on Halloween

  • Ask the trick-or-treaters, “Canned goods or meat?”
  • Hand them bags of sand or a penny instead of candy and see what their response is.
  • Tell the trick-or-treaters they have to do 15 jumping jacks before they can get candy.
  • After you hand out the candy, tell the trick-or-treaters, “That will be 50 cents please.”

Now On To the Treat!

I was trying to think of something festive to get for the boys in celebration of Halloween.  Dylan’s Candy Bar sent me two of these super cute paint cans filled with, well…you’ll see in the video below!

Here are close-ups of the super cute Halloween gift cans!

Dylans

There are a lot of other cool Halloween-inspired goodies on Dylan’s Candy Bar’s website, as well as great ideas for birthday gifts, personalized items, and more!!

What type of candy do you like best?

Plannign is crucial for me. Lots of Halloween tricks and treats take time to prepare or just to come up with ideas

Yes, I totally agree! I am a big planner too so I have lists and lists of things to make, where to shop, etc. 🙂

Quite frankly, I prep all year for this day 😉

Here's a roundup of some of our favorite wines. We tend to lean more toward reds, but there are whites that we enjoy as well!

We found out about Stella's litter from Higgins' mom! (Our neighbor-turned-adopted-family-member is Higgins' mom)

It's fun to see them play together - they have a lot of the same mannerisms. I wonder if they know they're related?

Every summer for quite a few years, we would fly down to Florida for "Camp Grandma and Grandpa". We'd spend 2 months in Tamarac, FL in a 55+ community, enjoying the sun, pool, shopping, and other grandkids that also visited their grandparents.⁣
⁣
My birthday falls smack in the middle of the summer, so for many years, I would celebrate away from home. My grandparents always made it a very special day for me, complete with a little pool party, presents, and of course cake!⁣
⁣
Looking back, I wouldn't trade those summers for anything.
