I know I have been somewhat MIA…even to the point of coming up with a super cool blog post idea and then not adding content to it – BAD ME!!
A lot of things have been transpiring on the home front – all good, and in time I will divulge to all! Moving into the new home has been the biggest event of the past week or so. WOW. I mean, I have heard people say that moving was the worst thing ever for them. I can’t totally agree with them, but I definitely feel their pain. I feel that I have learned a lot from this whole experience. (AND will not move for a very, very, very long time.)
No, you cannot unpack all boxes on the first day of the move.
Don’t even bother vacuuming within the first few days. Totally worthless.
Yes, you will start purging items while unpacking that you thought you would totally need, when initially packing them (whether it is because there is no space or you think, “what was I thinking?”).
Although I have numbered and detailed the contents of each moving box onto a spreadsheet, I still did not realize the magnitude of what we really own.
I tried to keep along the mantra of unpacking “room by room”, which didn’t really work well. I am very easily sidetracked, and considering the fact that I didn’t know for sure where everything was truly going to “live”, it was a mess. I did, however, walk over 12,000 steps per day – score!
I still play russian roulette when it comes to which light switch applies to which lighting fixture/area. Actually, I don’t think I completely got that down in our old house, and we lived there for ten years.
A week and a bit into the new home and I feel a sense of calm. There are still items strewn randomly through the house, but definitely not as much as before. I am always on the lookout for the next great organization tip – if you have any, please do share!!
