Who would’ve known that a randomly purchased Groupon would turn into a super fun day for the whole family!! Bluefoot’s Pirate Adventure in Fort Lauderdale sounded like a different and cool way to spend some quality time with the boys.
Earlier in the week, the weather for Sunday looked iffy so I kept checking Weather.com every few hours…no ones wants to go on a boat when the water is choppy and there was a chance of the company canceling the “voyage” if there was rain.
Sunday morning came and it was gorgeous out! We packed into the family mobile, made a quick pitstop to check out our soon-to-be new home (dirt right now), and then off we went. Upon arrival, I didn’t really know what to expect. We checked in with the “Captain” of the ship and ready to see what we had in store for the next hour or so. First, G got his face painted. He asked for a scar…such a badass LOL. (Later on, he would tell you it was a fire on his face.) N is more conservative, so he went for the skull and crossbones tattoo.
Next, the pirates in training were lined up to get their pirate gear. For $7, each pirate received an eye patch, bandanna, belt, and sword.
Onto the ship we went! The first mate taught the boys some pirate “language” such as ARGGGHHHHH, which we all yelled (parents included) to each ship as it passed. HAZAAAAA was the word meant for positive reinforcement (pirate speak for modern-day “Great Job!”). The Captain and first mate told a story about a stinky bad pirate – Barnacle Bill – who stole their treasure chest key…and so the story began.
All of the kids loved it! The parents sat on the back of the boat and in the middle, which allowed the kids to truly feel as if they were on their own, amongst their pirate pals. They even learned how to man the “cannons” – water guns.
I don’t want to give too much away because if you are a local to South Florida, or visiting and need a cool thing to do with the kids…I highly recommend this!
Some sneak peeks…
