5 Moving Day Mistakes to Avoid

It’s the day you’ve been waiting for – the day in which you pack up and move to your new home. Moving day can often be hectic, but with the right amount of organization, it can run smoothly. Here are five moving day mistakes to avoid to make it all stress-free.

Moving Day Mistakes

Not labeling boxes

It’s easy to lose track of which box contains which contents during the move. This can be frustrating once you’ve moved into your new home and can make unpacking a longer process. Before moving day, make sure that every box is labeled so that you prioritize which boxes to unpack first. Make sure to also label any fragile contents – this will prevent these boxes from being roughly handled en route.

Forgetting to book a babysitter/dog-sitter

If you’ve got pets or kids, it could be worth hiring someone to look after them on moving day. Animals and children will get under your feet and you don’t want the job of having to look out for them on top of monitoring where items are going. Pay a friend or family member to look after them for the day or hire a babysitter or dog sitter to take care of them until the move is done.

Choosing the wrong moving company

You can sometimes save money by hiring a van and handling the move yourself. However, when it comes to transporting lots of items, you may be better off hiring removals specialists such as MyBekins moving company. Professional companies will have dollies and experienced removals staff that can handle the move proficiently and swiftly. You don’t want to be hiring a van for multiple days and fuelling up for multiple trips when a moving company may be able to do the work in a day.

Not checking your insurance policy

It can be worth taking out moving insurance to help protect your items and insure you against any damage. However, you should always read these policies carefully to check what is and isn’t covered. Such insurance policies generally only cover damage made by professionals. In other words, if you choose to move your possessions yourself and you happen to damage something, the item will not be covered. Most moving companies have basic carrier liability, which is free, but the payout is based only on the weight of items. This may help to fix a damaged sofa but may do little to fix a damaged tablet. Sites such as State Farm can give more information on such insurance.

Not packing a survival kit

It’s worth having a survival kit with all the most important items needed to help you on moving day. This should include food, pet food, toilet paper, medication, diapers, phone chargers, tools and potentially even toiletries and kitchen implements for easy access when you get to your property. Put all these in a bag or in a designated box and keep this with you for the entirety of the day. Having a survival kit will prevent you from interrupting the move to search through boxes for key items.

Please share any tips you have for a smooth move!

It’s quite difficult to find a good moving company – that’s the controversy. Very few people are willing to investigate and study the moving market to find out which company is 100% worth hiring

Guys, take COVID seriously if you are not already doing so. There's no rhyme or reason. No rules or regulations. The doctors and nurses are doing their absolute best, learning along with us.

The past 18 days have been heartbreaking, then uplifting - wash, rinse, repeat.

Once you meet her, she immediately welcomes you to the family and becomes your biggest fan.

We're so thankful and proud to have her as our mom. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers 🙏

Watch out 🌎 - once she's home, she's going to heal and be back to her usual super loving self.

Thank you so much for the well wishes and prayers - our family is eternally grateful.
