Whether you’re a busy person or you just don’t like to cook, you might be tempted by takeout and quick, microwaved food more often than not. It’s so easy just to grab something on your way home from work or throw something from the freezer into the microwave for a few minutes, so why not?
The answer is that while these things are fine once in a while, they’re not good for you if you eat them every day or even more than once a week (some would say once a month). Read on to find out why homemade food is actually the best thing you can eat and how, even if you’re busy, you can still enjoy it as much as possible.
It’s Healthier
The biggest reason to eat homemade food instead of takeout is that it’s healthier. Not only can you choose to include plenty of healthy ingredients, but you can also make sure you cook the food in a healthy way. Rather than frying food as you might find happens in a fast food restaurant, you can grill or bake the food or find another healthy way to cook it.
You’ll also know precisely what goes into every meal you eat, which means you can keep on top of your nutrition (you’ll know if you’re lacking in something, for example). Plus, even if you’re not concerned about your own health, if you have a family to take care of, homecooked food for their sake is a great idea. If you don’t have a lot of time, you can batch-cook food when you do have time and then freeze the extra portions to simply defrost and warm through when you need a healthy meal but can’t cook one from scratch.
It’s a Life Skill
Continuing on from the point above, if you’re a parent, it’s important to teach your children life skills so that when they are living by themselves, they are able to stay healthy and take care of themselves and their homes (and perhaps their own children) in the right way.
One of the most important life skills you can teach them is cooking. In this way, they won’t have to rely on takeout and fast food, and they will always be able to whip up a great meal when they need to. If you’re not a confident cook, why not take some lessons, perhaps with your children too, to help you learn more and gain more skills for your own life? When you do this, you’ll be able to cook anything you want, such as homemade birria tacos that the whole family will love.
It’s Cheaper
How much do you spend each week on unhealthy food? It’s probably more than you think when you add it all up. If you compare this cost to the cost of buying healthy ingredients, you’ll see that it’s actually much less expensive to make your own food.
If you really miss the food you used to eat, you can even make your own versions that will be healthier and, once you know how to cook, will taste just as good. When you taste this food and see how much money you’re saving, you’ll wonder why you didn’t cook your own food before.
