LAS VEGAS BABY!
I’ve gone to Las Vegas over a dozen times, and can definitely say that over the years I’ve learned the ins and outs to being prepared. Between the weather, activities and everything in between, here’s what you need to do to ensure you have a comfortable and fun trip to Sin City!
Baby, it’s Dry Outside
It’s a dry climate. Coming from South Florida, where humidity rules the roost, the arid climate of Las Vegas can wreck havoc on your skin and body. It’s imperative that you pack a hydrating lotion – for your face, body and hands – as well as lip balm. I have combination skin, but I can honestly tell you that the sections that were “dry” in Florida were VERY dry in Vegas. My skin felt noticeably tighter. I opted for a hair, skin and nail oil that I generously applied morning, noon and night.
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water. Vegas is the mecca for having a great time, which may equate to drinking a little more alcohol than customary as well as staying out a bit past your bedtime (translation – increase in caffeine). Both alcohol and coffee are dehydrating. For each of the drinks just mentioned, grab a glass of water.
Pack Smart
The nightlife in Vegas is like no other and of course you want to look your best. Super cute dresses and high heels are what customarily come to mind as club attire, right? But think about how your feet are going to feel after an hour or so of walking from your hotel to the venue and dancing the night away. Although I love heels, I opt for one of two alternatives:
- I wear cute foldable flats to the venue, carrying my heels, and then swap out once I arrive. (I also swap again once the night is over and I’m on my way back to the hotel.)
- If you’re really stuck on the height factor, invest in a comfy pair of wedges. That little extra support along the whole shoe sole will definitely pay off in the long run.
Going to Las Vegas for a trade show? I smirk under my breath when I see women walking around the insanely huge convention centers in their (albeit gorgeous) heels. I can see them invariably shifting weight from one foot to the other, trying to walk normally but wincing as they do so. Wear flats! There are so many equally gorgeous flats (or wedges) out there that can save your feet from pain.
Budget Yo’self
I am not a gambler. It could be because the handful of times I tried my luck at the slot machines, I lost terribly. I may as well have given my money directly to the casino instead of wasting time watching it disappear with every press of a button Yes, you read that right…there are no arms to pull down for the machines to whirr. You just press a button and the spinning begins. Kind of takes the fun out of it (or any form of exercise).
If you are a gambler, I highly recommend that you allot yourself a gaming budget. Promise yourself that after you dish out $XXX, it’s time to walk away from the machines. You’ll thank yourself when you’re home.
Plan Ahead
Figure out ahead of time which hotels and restaurants you’d like to visit. I use Open Table to book all of our dining reservations. Book show tickets in advance to insure you get to see your favorite show or performer.
Transportation
If you plan on traveling off the strip, to let’s say the Hoover Dam, it may behoove you to rent a car. If not, it is very easy to get around either by foot or car service. You’ll be able to easily hail a cab at the entrance of any hotel, but we’ve totally changed over to Uber.
All you have to do is log into the app if you haven’t already done so, and schedule an Uber car to your next destination. Not only is it a nicer car, but it turned out to be a lot less expensive – in most cases almost 50% lower than a cab ride. Note that there are designated spots for Uber pickups that are different than the usual taxi spots, so make sure to locate it ahead of time via the app or one of the doormen/valets at the hotel.
Take heed of the 5 tips above and you’ll be well on your way to a great Vegas vacation!
