Are you thinking about booking your summer holiday? Have you ever thought about a road trip for your break away? Road trips are great fun and give you a chance to see a variety of places all in one trip. Depending on where you want to visit, they are very affordable and have something to do for everyone, whether that be for your children, adults, partner or family members.
When planning a road trip there are a number of things to consider. You will want to make sure you have all your insurance in place depending on the country you are visiting. Although we hope you don’t need one, a Local Personal Injury Lawyer may be beneficial should you get into an accident. Take a moment to do some research on the roads you are going to drive and try to be realistic about the total mileage that you are going to do.
Below are our top tips for planning a road trip.
Plan your journey before you drive it
When driving in different countries it can be a stressful period, especially if you aren’t used to driving on the other side of the road. Before the trip, spend a moment using Google Maps to familiarize yourself with the roads you will be taking on. Research busy junctions and check the traffic conditions so you know roughly how long you will be driving. It may be worth looking for places to stop on your journey to ensure you get a break from driving and some food in you. Sometimes the drives can be long if there are certain places you would like to visit.
Be realistic about the mileage
When calculating the mileage of your road trip try to be as realistic as possible. When working it out, we like to add 10% or 20% extra as you are bound to forget about certain places that you are going to visit or have to take detours due to traffic. When calculating the mileage you are going to drive, use this to work out how much the petrol or diesel costs will be. This way you can get a rough estimate of how much you are going to be spending on fuel throughout your break away.
Put a playlist together
A must before any long journey is to put a playlist together of your favorite songs. Ask each person who will be traveling with you to recommend some songs that you can add and make sure you add some recognisable ones. When the popular ones come on, this can boost the mood as you will all start singing the lyrics together. When you are on a long journey, having a selection of songs you enjoy can reduce tiredness and help make the drive more fun for you and your passengers. Spending time together in a car for long journeys can help make you feel closer as a family as there is plenty of time to talk and bond.
