*I was gifted a care package of Christophe Robin products in exchange for an honest review. All opinions in this post are 100% my own – and BTW, my hair loves me for it!
Summer is sneaking up on us. Some locales are on par with the weather, whereas others are colder than usual or, in my case, super hot. It is extremely important that I protect my family and myself against the harsh byproducts of the sun.
My tips for healthy summer hair are brought to you in part by Christophe Robin. I read about their scalp scrub in Allure magazine and contacted them to learn more about their product line. In response, they sent me a care package with some products that, after trying out, they have been integrated into my haircare routine.
Along with a conversation with my hair stylist I am grateful to know these tidbits of info to keep my hair healthy and excited to share them with you!
Cover your hair
This is a give in, right? I say that now but I would always forget to cover my hair – and then I’d wonder why my color faded so terribly. Now if I am going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time I make sure my hair is covered. Here are some fun hats to toss on.
You don’t have to limit this to just hats. Tie a cute scarf or bandana around your head for a fun twist!
SPF for your hair? Yep!
I didn’t know that there even was SPF for hair until my last hair appointment. I scheduled to have just my roots colored since at my last appointment I did the whole she-bang. When she looked at my hair, she explained that if I did just my roots it would look rather odd as the majority of my hair had lightened due to sun exposure. Apparently there are hair products out there that contain SPF! I use Christophe Robin’s Moisturizing Hair Cream that contains SPF 6, in conjunction with wearing a hat.
Try to extend days between washing hair
Although it is good to wash your hair to get rid of the grease, try to withhold from washing as frequently as normal. If you need to wash daily, focus on cleansing your roots only.
Deep conditioning treatments
Deep conditioning treatments have been a godsend for me. I color my hair and am not as good as I should be. Deep conditioning can help repair the damage we cause throughout the week, and is something to add to your calendar year round. I tried the Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil. What I loved the most about this mask was that it nourished my hair and made it feel super smooth without weighing down my thin hair.
Frizz fighter
Avoid swimmers hair: Your hair shafts are like sponges. Before plunging into the pool, wet your hair in the shower or sink. Your hair will be less likely to soak up the chlorine and other chemicals from the pool.
Perfect the art of braiding
Hair can become brittle in the summer months, so the less time your hair is subjected to heat the better. Opt for air drying your hair as opposed to blow drying or try your hand at braiding!
Limit visits to your hairstylist
Constant coloring may leave your hair dry and damaged. Couple that with the sun’s effects and you’ve got a double whammy. If you start to notice some grays pop up, think about using a color depositing product such as Christophe Robin’s Mask with Temporary Hair Coloring.
There are so many other ways you can preserve your hair color and protect your hair during the hottest months of the year. What do you do to protect your hair?
On an aside, if you have fine, thin hair I do highly recommend Christophe Robin’s volumizing shampoo and conditioner. I’ve been using it for over a month now and I can definitely see a difference in my hair’s body (and it smells delicious due to the rose extract!)

I had no idea that I should be wearing spf for my hair! I’ll have to start doing that, especially since I live in the South where we can be outside all the time!
Linda @ With A Blast says
No idea there was an SPF hair treatment available ! Makes a lot of sense why hair starts to get that dull look, especially after a vacation at the beach (always thought it was due to the salt water)
Dana says
I thought it was the salt water or the chlorine from a pool too! Now ever y time I buy hair products I am going to make sure it has SPF!

Jess Leeman says
WOAH?! SPF for hair? I had no idea this existed either – I just use a heat protection spray..I guess it’s a similar thing? Maybe.
Dana says
SPF actually has sun protection in it whereas the heat protectant just protects the hair from heat.

I like that braid. A braid seems nice for the beach if your hair is long enough. Mine is getting there. Hope to grow it out some more.
Dana says
Heather, I wish my hair was that long and thick for a braid like in the video 🙂 It’s slowly growing though!

My stylist warned me a few visits ago that my color would be drastically affected by the sun – and it was! Now I stick to my SPF products and I can see a difference in how long my color lasts!
