It’s time to get in shape and just ripping exercise articles out of magazines, watching video clips on the computer, and buying cool workout outfits is not cutting it.
I need to get my butt in gear! In the many articles I have read in the past, they mention the concept of blogging about your exercising…making yourself accountable for working out and eating healthier because your readers are “watching” you.
So here I go…delving into the “accountability”. I thought of writing this blog subject many times…and, many times, I realized I have to follow through and that scared me a bit. I can follow through with purchasing that fabulous pair of shoes online, I follow through with office meetings…why not exercising and doing something for my health, right?
TIME TO GET IN SHAPE
STEP ONE – LOOK THE PART
When you have plans to go to dinner with your husband or ladies night with your friends, your outfit is more than likely something that makes you feel confident and put together. Right?
The same should hold through for your workout outfit. Pick out something that you feel good in, maybe it’s those black Lululemon leggings and super cute workout tank from Athleta or Old Navy. Whatever the clothing choice may be, make sure you feel good in it.
STEP TWO – TELL EVERYONE
Commitment and accountability is key. I know that if I tell my mom or my friends that I am planning to do something, they are going to follow up with me later on asking how that “something” went. If I tell them that I am working out, I am sure (if they care), they are going to inquire as to how it’s going.
Post it on Facebook, write an article about it on your blog (ahem)…you get the idea. It’s all about accountability, baby.
STEP THREE – MAKE IT A HABIT
It takes roughly 21 days to make something a habit. Don’t be super hard on yourself but keep that in mind when you are groaning that you have to go workout. After a few weeks, it becomes second nature and you’ll be used to it.
Maybe you will even WANT to do get in shape! I was like that with Pilates. I miss it now when I cannot attend class.
STEP FOUR – GOALS
Write down intermittent goals you are looking to achieve by working out. Is it to lose “X” amount of pounds? Would you like to fit into your favorite little black dress again? Are you training for a marathon? Break the goals down into bite sized time frames.
STEP FIVE – REWARDS
When you reach each of the milestones or goals you set for yourself, you should really treat yourself. Even if it is something small such as a manicure and pedicure or new running shoes – congratulate yourself on a job well done.
Shout it from the rooftops, post it on social media. Revel in the “Congratulations!”, “I knew you could do it!”, “Kudos!!” that you see pop up in your feed. You deserve it.
Then, set your next grouping of goals if you have not yet done so.
If you fall off the wagon, brush yourself off and get right back on. Don’t beat yourself up because all it’s going to do is frustrate you even more.
YOU CAN DO IT!
It’s not that hard to get in shape, right? You’re doing this for your health. Pushing yourself to become a better version of you is the kindest thing you could possibly do for yourself. It’s hard work, but it can be done.
