Ebates, now Rakuten

I don’t remember exactly how I stumbled upon this website, but boy am I glad!!

Ebates now Rakuten is a portal for online rebates and coupons for over 1,500 stores!  It’s not like any average coupon site – you get a percentage back of your purchase in the form of a “Big Fat Check”.  Percentages vary by store, and you can get notified of the stores offering higher percentages as a promo, etc. by signing up for their emails.  The “Big Fat Check” is mailed to you quarterly – a nice surprise to get in the mail!

Here is a perfect scenario where I use Ebates:

I am looking for a gift for a friend.  I love to shop online, so I first go to Ebates, login, and type in the store name in their search box.  Almost all of the sites that I shop on are affiliated with Ebates, which is great!  Let’s say I want to get my friend a shirt from Banana Republic.  I search for Banana, and a dedicated Ebates page comes up, showing all available online promotions.  I click on “Shop Now” and I am on my way to find a great gift for a friend AND get a percentage back!!
