HONG KONG PART 2: Dumplings and Day Two

Hong Kong Dumplings and Day Two

As posted earlier, my flight to Hong Kong was exciting and uneventful.  Once we landed, we went straight to the hotel to shower (traveling for 24 hours warrants that) and then right out to grab some dinner.

We decided on Din Tai Fung, my husband’s favorite dim sum restaurant, and only a few minutes walk from the hotel.  Here’s a picture of the streetscape on the way.  There were high-end stores and malls (or arcades as some were called) EVERYWHERE.

One of my most favorite brands in an insanely huge storefront.  Swoon.

Yes, that’s LV, Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo and Hermes…huge storefronts right next to each other.

I’ve been dying to try what my husband dubs as “the best soup dumplings you’ll ever eat”, so was super excited to have them as my first meal.

For 9:30 pm, the restaurant was quite packed!  I let R do the ordering.  To do so, you have to complete a form, checking off the item number(s) you’d like, and the wait staff brings out the food as it is prepared.  Here is the “how to eat guide” for the soup dumplings (also known as XiaLongBao) that was on our table.

Basically, you dip the dumpling in this vinegar, soy sauce and ginger combination, then put the dumpling into the spoon, pierce it with the chopstick so that the soup pours out of the dumpling and then pop it in your mouth.  Insane deliciousness.

The soup dumplings were down right DELICIOUS!!  We ordered the shrimp and pork dumplings and also the black truffle and pork dumplings, along with fried rice (another weakness of mine).

Is your stomach growling yet?  Mine is.

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel to rest for the upcoming busy first day at the trade show.

DAY TWO

Breakfast Cappuccino

(totally not an advertisement for the Sheridan LOL)

I was up at 4:30am, then somehow willed myself back to bed until 6:00am.  After a delicious breakfast overlooking the harbor (I wish I had this view every morning!), we were off to the show!

View at BreakfastThe main reason for the visit to Hong Kong was for my husband to go to the Global Sources Electronics Show to source new products for his company.  I trailed along for the ride, so to speak, and actually learned so much about his business and a lot about the Chinese culture.

That bottom pic shows the size of this show…each line is a company’s booth location.  This show was HUGE.

I learned that business cards are known as “name cards” and when you hand one to someone, you do so with both hands.

After a solid 6 hours of walking the show, shaking hands, and exchanging name cards we were off to the hotel for a quick change of clothing and then on to Central Hong Kong.  To be continued…
