Going through life without making a beauty mistake is like trying to avoid grazing your knee or walking in on somebody using the bathroom. It’s going to happen at some point.
However, with a bit of reading and research, you can cut down on the chances that you’ll make an error substantially.
In this post, we take a look at some of the top beauty mistakes that people make so you don’t have to. Check them out below.
Wearing Makeup Every Day
Wearing makeup every day might seem like a no-brainer if your goal is to look beautiful all the time. But it turns out that too much of a good thing can actually be bad for your skin. Over time, you’ll notice that your skin doesn’t look or feel as good as it used to in the past. It might start getting dry. And if it can’t breathe, you may have to deal with endless breakouts.
The reason for this comes down to how our skin functions. Put bluntly, it needs room to breathe so that it can refresh and renew itself, and cover itself in sebum. But if makeup is blocking that process, then it will begin to dry out and become clogged. Eventually, you could wind up with a bunch of annoying zits or cysts under the skin.
Give your skin a break from makeup every couple of days. And remove it the moment you no longer need it – for instance, when you get home after a busy day.
Failing To Dye Your Roots
Dying your hair can be a lot of fun and fundamentally changes your appearance. But it can also require a lot of maintenance. Eventually, your roots will begin to show through. And you’ll be left with streaks running down your parting.
It’s important, therefore, to dye your roots every four to six weeks or so to match your current hair color. Heavy roots make you look older and less well-kept.
Overdoing The Mascara
Wearing a little mascara is fine. But going overboard is a massive beauty mistake. Eventually, you get to the point where the eyelashes become too heavy and just look “caked” instead of fresh. Excessive clumping reduces the openness they add to the eyes.
The trick here is to apply two to three coats of mascara as a maximum. Just trust it to do its work, without feeling the need to add more and more as you stare at yourself in the mirror. By adding fewer layers, you can get good volume and separation.
If you feel that your lashes still don’t have enough volume after applying mascara, try using curlers. These will add yet more separation and size, helping to open up your lashes even more.
Applying Too Much Bronzer
A little bronzer can be a great way to freshen up dull, pale skin. But applying too much can make you look overdone – especially if you only apply it to one part of your body.
Going too extreme on the bronzer can actually make you look older. Fresh-faced people tend to have bright dewy skin, not deep orange. But when you add too much bronzer, you actually create contrast between the lines and wrinkles on your skin, and the rest of your face (even if you’re young).
To avoid looking old before your time, just apply a single application of bronzer and wait and see how it turns out. This subtle touch should be sufficient to give you that healthy glow you crave, without the need to continually return to the salon.
Getting Not-So-Subtle Tattoos
Nowadays, tattoos are becoming more popular among both men and women. And that’s leading to progressive increases in their size.
For many people, this isn’t a problem. But for some, it’s creating beauty issues. At a certain point, tattoos just become too much.
The good news is that you can reverse your mistakes with laser tattoo removal. These procedures work by firing lasers at tattoos which breaks down the ink under your skin into smaller particles, allowing the body to clear it away. Usually, you need four or five treatments. But, by the end of it, your tattoos look completely faded – as if they were never there.
Drawing On Your Eyebrows Too Thick
To look beautiful, you want shapely eyebrows. But layering on the brow pen too thickly can be a little overwhelming.
In general, the thicker your eyebrow the more youthful you’ll look. In the past, thin brows were all the rage, but not anymore it seems.
When shaping your brows, always choose a brow pen slightly lighter than your actual brow hairs. This will make your brows look more natural.
You should also try to shape your brows with an angled brush. The pattern should follow your natural brow shape, but look a little more groomed. Angling your brush will make the final result look a little more natural.
Eating And Drinking All The Wrong Things
While cosmetics and makeup can go some way to making you beautiful, there’s no substitute for a healthy diet and a balanced lifestyle. Getting the right foods into your body is essential.
Unfortunately, too few of us eat plenty of fruits and veggies. And that’s a shame because these foods can make a tremendous difference in how you appear. When you eat well, it changes the entire structure of your body, including your skin and face. You look more nourished and you have a natural healthy pallor about you that you don’t get if you live off desserts and fast food.
Overwashing Your Face
Lastly, we’re told that we should wash our faces regularly – perhaps even every day. But that can create problems. Overwashing the face dries it out and leaves skin more susceptible to flaking and stiffness.
If you need to take off makeup every day, use a pad with micellar water. Then, once you finish removing it, apply a light oil, like rosehip, to provide a little extra moisture.
Don’t worry if you’ve made any of these beauty mistakes. It happens to the best of us.
