It is such an exciting event when a child loses a tooth! Wednesday, while at school, my oldest bit down on a Starburst, and out came one of his top teeth!
I returned home from work that night and thought he looked a bit different. He looks so darn cute! He lost his third tooth (on the bottom) 1 week ago, so he has this super cute crooked hole-y smile. I love it!
Before going to bed, N put the tooth under his pillow and we convinced him that he needed to sleep in his brother’s room so the tooth fairy wouldn’t wake him when she came to collect the tooth – slick, right?? Well, not so much. I wasn’t feeling too hot, so I went to bed and read a bit of my book. My husband said he’d swap out the tooth for cash when he finished some work downstairs.
Fast forward Thursday morning – this is the conversation I hear at 6:14 am:
N: The tooth fairy didn’t take my tooth.
Me (in my mind): Sh*t.
G: Are you sure?
N: Yes, it is still here. I am so upset. Why did she forget me?
Me (pounding on my husband’s shoulder): Babe, babe…did you put money under N’s pillow last night?
Husband: Sh*t. What do we do?
G: N, when I lose my teeth, I will give you my money.
[O-M-G was that not the sweetest thing for my little one to say????]
Me: Babe, get up and we need to figure this out!
My husband gets up, goes into N’s room, and proceeds to tell him that the weather was terrible outside last night…didn’t he hear the thunder???
Luckily, N bought it (I am going to Hell…). I came into work and confessed my sins to some friends and one sent me this great little note that she is saving for when her daughter loses her first tooth.
Letters to the Tooth Fairy:
Congratulations on losing your first tooth! You have a very beautiful smile and I am delighted to see that you have been brushing (and sometimes flossing) to keep your teeth healthy and clean. Keep up the good work!
With love,
The Tooth Fairy
Amended Tooth Fairy Letter:
Congratulations on losing your fourth tooth! You have a very beautiful smile and I am delighted to see that you have been brushing to keep your teeth healthy and clean. I am so sorry for not coming last night. The weather was terrible. Keep up the good work!
With love,
The Tooth Fairy
As soon as he went to bed in G’s room (once again), my husband ran in and did the old switch-a-roo.
This morning, N came into my room and read to me what the tooth fairy wrote him. He was so happy (especially because paper clipped to the letter was a five-dollar bill…a little extra for the guilt and interest.)
