Wedding trends have changed a lot since I was married back in 2003!
I attended The Addison’s Wedding Showcase and was amazed at how innovative and cool the wedding trends are!
DON’T FORGET FIDO
One thing that people tend to overlook when planning their wedding is their pet! Maybe your parents or best friend are the one that usually watches your dog or cat while you go on vacation. Obviously they are going to be at your wedding, so who does that leave you with when it comes to pet care for the big day?
Also, I would’ve loved to have my pooch in our wedding party! Imagine having your favorite furry friend walk down the aisle with you, or in a remote controlled car! I thought that was the sweetest idea!
When I saw the display for Furever Us, I immediately had to talk to the owners, a husband and wife duo.
They’ve got your pet covered – transportation to and from the event, pet sitting, photography, event coordination – you name it!
FOOD TRENDS
They had me at Macaroni and Cheese bar. Yes, you read that correctly! Macaroni and cheese has come a long way from the traditional Kraft that I grew up with. It’s matured somewhat with gastro pubs and even franchised establishments offering a different take on the simple pasta with cheese idea.
At the macaroni and cheese bar you pick the pasta and cheese combination, then have bowls of different accompaniments to add to the traditional American dish. Think of bacon crumbles, scallions, grilled chicken, pancetta – the options are endless
Dessert has been transformed with the introduction of the Brownie Bar. Offer different brownies – the traditional chocolate, maybe one with nuts, some Blondies. Ice cream options are endless, but the piece de resistance…warm chocolate (or caramel or strawberry) syrup drizzled over that and savory popcorn on top.
Wedding cakes have been morphed into masterpieces that I may not want to eat they are so beautiful! Gone are the days of traditional wedding cakes. Make room for intricately decorated and designed cakes that are worthy of an art gallery opening.
COCKTAILS, PLEASE
Many a wedding goer looks forward to the bar. Is it top shelf? What are the wine choices? The newest trend is a signature cocktail for the big day – or a handful of carefully crafted cocktails.
My new favorite, especially in the South Florida heat, is a grapefruit mule. Both refreshing and delicious, this new take on the mule would be a perfect addition to the bride and groom’s menu.
GOWNS
There were a few models walking around with the latest in wedding fashion. My eye kept going toward the one gown that had sleeves. It was stunning. (Maybe not practical for a South Florida wedding, but so elegant.)
Here are some examples of the sleeved wedding gown style:
TECHNOLOGY
Technology has raised the bar when it comes to events. Selfie stations – basically tablets installed on a stand with the ability to take photos of your guests, more than likely with the use of fun props – are a mainstay. The photos can be emailed or printed on demand making for an instant party favor (and social media post all in one).
No need to wait for your friend to scan the image and send it to you! Some stations can even detect the number of faces in the photo and print that many photos. Another station I saw looked exactly like a mirror. It was touchscreen and took a full body shot – AMAZING!
Lighting, sound, and effects are super advanced as well.
Venues
I loved everything about my wedding and wouldn’t change a thing, but I can only imagine what it would be to incorporate all of these cool trends into one!
I am in love with The Addison in Boca. I’ve been to a handful of events at this venue and each one was more beautiful than the next. Even without decoration, it is stunning. The banyan trees with lights strung amongst the branches in the courtyard set the romantic tone along with the fountain.
Have you ever been to The Addison? They host events throughout the year – Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Halloween. Check out their event calendar and maybe I’ll see you there!

Food is always key in weddings. As you think for your guests, make sure they’ll remember it but of course not sacrificing your theme 😉

These are such great tips especially food presentation. That is the first thing all your wedding guests notice!

You had me at macaroni bar too. Wowza. That is a good trend. 🙂

I completely agree with all of these, especially the Fido. There’s a big possibility that we forget about who would tend to them when we are too busy.
Dana says
Exactly!

Weddings are so much more complex nowadays than 10 years ago when I got married! I love all these, but there are so many stresses for brides when it comes to getting married, these all can be so overwhelming!
The Southern Thing says
I am loving all these trends, especially seeing people’s dogs part of their big day!
Dana says
Isn’t that awesome?!

Wedding trends keep on changing but you’ve nailed the ones everyone should focus on.
Samar says
I will agree with Akriti here, the trends keeps on changing, but the point you have pinned down would work in most of the cases.
Good job.
