The Best Bike Shorts to Wear This Summer

You may have reacted the same way I did when I heard bike shorts are the latest summer fashion trend. It’s all good.

Bike shorts are back and cuter than ever. I know, I didn’t think so at first. I ignored it. I denied it. Then, I saw a super cute pair in an email and started to slowly warm up to the trend.

One of the determining factors that convinced me to try them out was the “high-waisted” bike shorts. My confidence slowly emerged with the anticipation of knowing that some of my shortcomings will be “properly distributed”.

THE HISTORY OF BIKE SHORTS

I know this sound a bit odd, but there is somewhat of a history behind these intimidating shorts. The original bike short was made of wool. Eek – itchy you may think, no?!

Bike shorts morphed slowly from chamois to silk in the 1950’s. Thankfully the 1970’s introduced the lycra bike short – not as appealing to the people watching the bicyclists trekking down the road, but more so for the actual athlete.

Thankfully, bike shorts have come a long way. As I’ve slowly warmed up to the trend, I have researched and curated a grouping of bike shirts. They range in price, from solid prints to super cool camo and floral.

Depending on your comfort level, you can wear any of these with either a flowing t-shirt, sports bra, tank top, or comfy sweatshirt. I have even seen them paired with a slim fitting tank and blazer or denim jacket – ready for a night out on the town.

I will honestly not be using them for their original intention (although I finally ordered my Peloton bike but have to wait quite some time for delivery). I see myself wearing these shorts with a flowing tank top or t-shirt and sneakers.
