That was all I did this weekend…not sit down and read magazines, but clean the house! We are prepping it as we will put it on the market in a few weeks…and what work it is!!
Saturday, between R, myself, and two handymen – we accomplished a lot but there is so much more to do! Today alone, while R was touch-up painting the outside of the house, I was inside cleaning the oven, organizing and purging everything in the bathroom cabinets, linen closet, our closets…
It’s amazing how much we have accumulated over the ten years of living in this house. I didn’t know one could “collect” so many towels, bed sheets, tote bags – OY! I do think I am at the point where I am donating or purging just to not have to pack.
Here are some of things I have been doing to try and be as organized as possible:
- I number each of the boxes I pack, and then in my little “Moving Book”, I note the box number, contents, and what room that box is to be delivered to during the move.
- I have been saving the old towels and tablecloths to use them as packing materials. Bubble wrap goes like water!
- If I haven’t worn the shirt/pants/sweater in the past year, I have to let it go…this time for real.
- In the kitchen, do I really need 18 million pots and pans (I do have to consult with R, as with my luck I will end up donating the one pot that he loves to use).
- Kids’ toys – if the toy is not age-appropriate any more I am donating it. (And moving it to the donation pile before the kids can see it and want to play with it.)
- The garage is definitely a mess with empty and full boxes packing materials, etc. I try to keep the packed boxes to one side, neatly and hope that the prospective buyers understand that our garage is the only place we can truly store our boxes in the meantime!
So much to do, way too little time! Hey, what are you doing next weekend? Wanna help us pack? LOL
