I would really like to know why people think it is OK to ask inappropriate questions. Seriously though! I went to get a mani and pedi at a local nail salon. As I am about to sit down, the technician asks me, “Are you pregnant?” Are you F’in kidding me???????
That echoed in my mind on so many levels. First off, has she not been told that it is inappropriate to ask someone if they are pregnant, even if they are visibly so? Secondly, doesn’t she know that sometimes recent mothers have not lost their “motherly love”, so it is in bad taste to ask that taboo question? OBVIOUSLY NOT.
Considering that I do not fall in either of the two scenarios above, I was beyond insulted and basically pissed off. There was that awkward silence that followed, and then I tried to say, “NO” in a calm yet serious tone…this girl is squirting acetone on my nails and wrapping them in aluminum foil (I had a gel manicure, and for those that are not familiar, that is how you soak the gel off).
So she asks, “How old is your baby?” SERIOUSLY?? So I tell her, “He is going to be 5.” Doesnt’ even phase her. Once again, SERIOUSLY??
I am trying to hard to get rid of the middle weight that has been daunting me for a long time. I am finally getting off my larger-than-usual butt to get myself in shape. I am already depressed at the fact that I have to succumb to one-piece bathing suits – although I do have to tell you I am finding some of the cutest ones out there, AND sucking in my stomach when in an upright position.
Moral of the story – don’t ask. I keep going back to that conversation. My nails look great but that doesn’t matter much now 🙁

I would have asked her” so why exactly is it that you think I am pregnant ? Lets take a poll – who here thinks I am pregnant?” see? You handled that way better than I would have!! And you are the petitest (is that a word?) little thing!!!
