Fighting Belly Flab – My Favorite Topic!

I am always searching for ways to get rid of my muffin top.  What’s so funny, is back in the day when my metabolism had nothing against me and was more like my BFF, I used to go to Dunkin Donuts almost every morning and get myself an iced coffee and muffin.  I would only eat the muffin top…maybe it’s coming back to get me or something ???  I digress…(as usual)

I have heard this a number of times  – stop thinking that crunches are going to get rid of your belly fat.  It makes sense.  Your abs are a small section of muscles in the whole scheme of your body’s muscles.   It’s recommended that you do exercises that work multiple muscle groups – exercises like:

  • Squats
  • Planks
  • Push-ups
  • Bicycles and jackknives are great because they force you to lift your upper and lower body
They help to effectively burn calories and reduce fat.

Try to eat:

  • Good fats like avocado and olive oil
  • Foods with a source of soluble fiber (10 g of apples, for example)
  • Foods cooked in coconut oil – I didn’t know that this oil has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties AND is pro-thyroid – NICE!!
  • Lemon – it reduces bloating
When it comes to belly fat, aerobic exercise is your best bet.  Don’t NOT do strength training in combination with aerobics, but if your goal is to lose that “lovin'”, do some form of aerobics exercise 4 – 5 week and then on an alternate day do the strength training to sculpt your soon-t0-be fab body.
Cutting down on carbs, I think, is very obvious when trying to lose weight in general.  I have cut down drastically and I think it has truly made a difference.  I don’t really miss it that much and when I am eating foods that I would normally pair with carbs, I eat just a smidgen of brown rice (for example) to get the “wanting” out of my system.
