When you have children it can sometimes seem impossible to do anything for yourself, especially if you have young children. From the moment you wake up to the second you go to sleep you are programmed to ensure the children are happy and healthy. Many parents forget and then subsequently neglect their own health and well-being. However, if you don’t look after yourself then you can soon start to feel the effects of exhaustion or even a weakened immune system. If you don’t know where to start, take a look at the article below for more help and information.
Watch What You’re Eating
When it comes to boosting your health you need to take a close look at what you are eating. If you are constantly rushing about then you won’t have the time to eat a solid three meals a day. This is what your body needs to function, even two bigger meals are better than snacking throughout the day. Many parents prefer the grab-and-go kind of diet rather than the sit-down and enjoy-the-food diet. However, this usually consists of unhealthy junk food rather than delicious fruits and veggies. You get all your nutrition and energy from the foods you consume, your body needs these minerals and vitamins to function normally.
Drink Plenty Of Liquids
If you are looking for ways to stay healthy while also being busy then it all comes down to how much fluid you are drinking. Ideally, as an adult, you should be drinking around two liters of water a day. This equates to around eight glasses which may seem like a lot but it is easily done if you remember. You can buy water bottles that have times on to remind you to drink throughout the day, alternatively, you could set an alarm on your phone or smartwatch.
If you struggle to drink water then you may be wondering if you can drink tea instead. Tea is highly caffeinated and not very good for you if you have it with milk and sugar. A great alternative to normal tea is Rooibos. You may be wondering what is Rooibos tea. It is a wonderful natural tea that you can drink on its own, so no need to reach for milk or sugar.
Hit The Gym
If you are a busy mom then you may be wondering when you will have the time to hit the gym and work out. You could be eating as healthy as possible but without a full workout, you won’t really be feeling the benefits of it. Exercise is also wonderful at filling your body with happy hormones so you feel energized and healthy at all times. If you simply don’t have the time or childcare to go to the gym then you can carry out workouts at home. Find fitness videos on platforms such as Netflix or Youtube.
Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is vital for anyone, especially a busy mom that is on the go 24/7. Sometimes it can seem as though each time you sit or lay down that the children wake up, this is quite often the case for younger children. They tell you when you have babies to sleep when they sleep, there is a reason for this. If you sleep when your children sleep then at least you are getting little bits of sleep here and there throughout the day. This is much better than staying awake for hours on end and feeling exhausted regularly throughout the day and night.
If you are not getting the recommended hours of sleep, which for an adult is between six and nine hours then you need to ask yourself why this is. It might be due to the kids keeping you awake or it may be due to your bed or mattress being old and uncomfortable. It is important you replace your mattress every eight to ten years to keep it new and fresh. If you are waking up with random aches and pains then this could be your body telling you that you need a new mattress.
Take Some Time For Yourself
Finally, as a busy mom, it is essential you take some time out for yourself every so often. If you have family nearby or the children’s father then you could ask them to babysit for you while you head out with some friends. It is so important you don’t become just a mom, you are still your own person that needs some time to yourself to do the things you enjoy. This could be absolutely anything from heading to the local coffee shop or even going on a spa trip. Try to schedule some ‘you’ time once or twice a month. This might not seem like a lot but if you are busy then you will really appreciate this break.
