The Best Beach Reads

There’s something about reading on the beach that is so relaxing.  It is a combination of the sunshine, the warm breeze, the smell of the ocean, and a GREAT book.

Here’s a compilation of books I would highly recommend you bring with you on your next beach day, while poolside or on vacation!

THE EXPATRIATES

An interesting, convoluted story about three different American women living in Hong Kong.  Janice Y.K. Lee brings you into these expatriates’ lives to experience the decisions that they each have to make.  All three women had to make decisions, as mothers (or a form thereof).

THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS

Victoria’s knowledge of the different flowers’ meanings helps her to change her life from living in a park to possible happiness.  Author Vanessa Diffenbaugh’s debut novel should be in your beach bag!

CRAZY RICH ASIANS TRILOGY

I couldn’t put down any of the Crazy Rich Asians books by Kevin Kwan.  (I was actually kind of sad that there were only three.)

Kevin takes you into the crazy, over-the-top lives of a handful of very wealthy (almost insurmountably so) Asian families. They are outrageous, some devious, some down-to-earth – but all insanely wealthy.

Start with Crazy Rich Asians, follow with China Rich Girlfriend, and the wrap up your beach vacay with Rich People Problems.  I recommend reading the books before watching the movie – but definitely watch the movie too!  It’s one I can watch over and over.

THE BELL JAR

First published in January of 1963, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath has been noted as a semi-autobiographical count of Plath’s own life and troubles.  Esther struggles from depression, in an era (1950’s) when electric shock therapy was recommended as a form of therapy.

ME BEFORE YOU TRILOGY

Now a movie too, Me Before You, was an awesome read.  I have to admit, I did cry at the end – it was sad and I didn’t want it to be over.

Next, I read After You, a great follow-up and yet another book I didn’t want to put down.

Last, but not least was the final – Still Me.  Wow.  Depending on how quickly you read, you may get through these in a few days…but savor them.

You can either click on the titles or images above or check out my Amazon storefront with all books on one handy dandy list!

I hope this list helps, and please if you have any recommendations I’d love to know!  Pop them in the comments below 🙂

Thanks for sharing these books! I’m a big reader (even if it isn’t on the beach as often as I’d like) and I’ve been looking for some new reads.

Usually when I go to the beach I’m a little preoccupied with playing in the waves, so I never read or anything. But these sound like great books I’d read at home!

I am an avid reader and I love to read a book before seeing it’s movie version. I think I’ll give Crazy Rich Asians a try to see how good of a rendition the movie adaptation is compared to the book.

SATURDAYS ARE FOR STELLA ❤️

Oh, hello there 👋 in case you’re new to my feed, this is Stella. She is an almost 3 year old goldendoodle from Stella, NC. No, we didn’t name her Stella because of the city she was born in. That was a complete coincidence!

She goes by many names - Stella, Stelladoodle, Stu Diddy, Stu, and Moose. Don’t ask 😂 (and whether she responds to any of those names is completely up to her.)

She’s finally graduating the puppy stages (I hope), but it is known that if you’re over and
👟you leave your shoes unattended
👜bag open
🧦socks on the floor
🧻towels in reaching distance to her counter surfing
🏃‍♀️🏃🏃‍♂️you’ll be running circles around the house after her. Don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉
#tbt A super fun night supporting the @juniorleag #tbt A super fun night supporting the @juniorleagueofbocaraton with my partner-in-crime @localmomscoop @fourmakers and @theaddison executive chef, Patrick Duffy.

Today we celebrated the life of Heather McMechan, someone I am eternally grateful came into my life, and devastated has left this earth. The church was filled with people that loved her - not one person that crossed her path couldn’t NOT love her.

Forever in my heart ❤️
