MEET NICOLE ROSEN!

When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?

A nurse

How did you decide to start Mizfit?

After many years of teaching and being creative and feeling stifled, I needed more. I was Teaching fitness classes and the obesity epidemic was in full effect – I asked my principal if I could run a free program at our school for dance. 150 children signed up. So when I went home I said to my husband maybe next year maybe I should try this for profit and that’s how it all started. The following year 55 kids signed up and I expanded into three schools which became 10 by year three and then I had to hire my first employee.

What is the biggest struggle you’ve encountered as an entrepreneur and how did you solve it?

I think being accepted in a male dominant society. I’m blessed that my particular business happens to be targeted more towards women. But I think there are moments when people didn’t take me as seriously.. I also didn’t have a business degree so to learn all the ins and outs of how to run a business was a little complex, but through dedication and motivation and asking lots of questions of people that were in similar industries I was able to create a successful business.

What do you think are the pros and cons of being a womanpreneur?

It’s absolutely an amazing thing to own your own business as a woman or not. But I’m proud to be able to have a company that is female driven which provide much confidence and empowerment in those that we teach and in ourselves. I’m not sure that I could say that there’s much of a con because I’m so passionate about what I do. But I think as I mentioned before in a male dominant society I think sometimes being paid for certain Things that a male would make more than you wanted and having to prove your value.

Do you have any mentors or coaches that you work with?

When I first began my dance business I had a wonderful mentor dancer friend in Miami. We would meet periodically to practice choreography and she really help me re-ignite that passion of dance since my childhood. I had many friends that are entrepreneurs that I met. they gave me some guidance in terms of how to start a business and what it entails to keep it running successfully. I think it’s always an evolving process, so I’m blessed to meet many people along my journey that offer advice as well as support

What advice would you give to someone reading this that has the entrepreneurial “itch”?

That there’s nothing better than following your passion and being your own boss. Obviously, in any job there are trials and tribulations but when you truly are passionate about what you do it doesn’t feel like a job. I think most people in the regular work world don’t understand this feeling because they are forced to work for others under certain parameters. It’s extremely rewarding to watch your vision come to fruition and to bring people along the way that shares the same passion.

What is the secret to achieving work-life balance for you?

Just like anything time management. Again, it doesn’t feel like a job for me so every day I get the opportunity to work with children and change their lives in a positive way. I have much flexibility in my job since it’s during school hours and follows the school calendar. So I don’t have to work a normal 9-to-5 job as well.

How do you find inspiration?

I think children are so inspiring! So on the daily to be able to be with these innocent souls that see things so beautifully and intuitively really is inspiring. I get to work with all different shapes and sizes, boys girls, dancers non-dancers and to be able to see them build their confidence and express themselves is extremely rewarding

What is your favorite book?

The Celestine Prophecy

What is your favorite quote?

Don’t stress what you can’t control.  Just let it be and focus on being happy.

What do you do to decompress?

Yoga, dance, meditate at the beach
