Do you know what happened back on this day in 1889? La dame de fer, more popularly known as the Eiffel Tower, was opened to the public! Built as the entrance to the World Fair, it has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognized structures in the world.
Growing up in the US, I learned about the Eiffel Tower during my Social Studies classes. The teachers didn’t go into great detail about this “iron lady” so I never really knew much more than it was in France and it was tall and people loved to go visit it. NOW I KNOW!
One of the biggest treats during my visit to Paris was that I would walk out of my friend’s building, and look a bit to the right – and there she was! How amazing is that to have such an iconic figure so close by?!? I was “star struck” by the beauty. The Eiffel Tower is about the same height as an 81-story building!

Have you ever been to Paris? I cannot wait for the day I can go back with my family to enjoy this romantic and historic city together!
