I’ve been wanting the perfect daytime makeup look, so when my friend Kim, spa director of the nSpa in Delray Beach, invited me in for a makeup tutorial, I booked my appointment ASAP!
I walked into the spa with a clean face, ready to learn. Kim introduced me to Ellie, the resident painter turned makeup specialist (she also does hair amazingly BTW), and off I was whisked to the makeup chair!
Let the Games Begin!
Ellie started with asking me what my usual makeup routine is, and aside from winging it with some bronzer, mascara, eyeliner, and under eye concealer I didn’t have much of a “usual makeup routine”. I told her to treat me as if I am a clean slate – I needed all the help and tips I could get!
Mark your calendar for a fun filled Facebook Live with Kim and Ellie as we go through my makeup bag. On September 15th at 1:00 p.m., we will go over what is good, bad, ugly (kidding), expiration dates…get your questions ready!
Face
Foundation
We started with a conversation about foundation. I had never used foundation until that day, always thinking it was too much – too heavy, would make me sweat, fake looking…you name it, I made every excuse not to wear it. Until now…
Ellie shows me how to properly apply foundation, feathering it on so that it smooths naturally onto my skin. Once applied, I was happily surprised that it wasn’t heavy and evened out my skin tone nicely! The CC foundation is paraben free and has Cayoma olive extract to help reduce brown spots, protect the skin from free radicals and prevent premature skin aging – my kind of product!
The brushes you use do make a difference, both in application and longevity.
Under Eye Concealer
I am loving the new under eye concealer infused with vitamin E and caffeine. Applied to the semi circle beneath my eyes with the attached super soft sponge applicator, it helped to camouflage the dark circles and wasn’t heavy at all.
Highlight and Contour
I am the last person to talk to about contouring and highlighting, although I love the after affects. Ellie showed me how and where to apply highlighter:
- Under the arch of each brow
- Interior corner of each eye (really helps you look more awake!)
- At the top of your cheekbones – line up from your pupil to the top of your cheekbone
- Cupid’s bow
For contouring she used a special brush and some bronzer to accentuate my cheekbones, making them more chiseled and defined. Applying the bronzer in an upward motion from the center of the cheekbone to the top really makes a difference.
Blush
I was taught blush should be used sparingly on the apples of the cheeks. Smile and apply!
Eyes & Lips
Eyeshadow
Ellie showed me how to build on my eyeshadow color. Start with a skin tone across the whole lid and slowly build from the eye’s outer corner toward the center of the eye. Apply eyeliner (liquid is her eyeliner of choice) from the pupil to the outer corner. Ellie recommended to also apply liner on the insider upper waterline in the same area.
Mascara
Mascara application is the usual – apply from the base of the lash outward to the lash tip. A few coats should do the trick.
Achieving captivating eyes involves mastering the basics of mascara application. Start by applying mascara from the base of the lash outward for a polished and elongated effect. For a more alluring gaze, consider experimenting with cat eye lash extensions styles. These styles, characterized by their outer elongation, can add a touch of drama and elegance to your look, enhancing the natural beauty of your eyes with a feline-inspired flair.
Lipstick & Liner
I haven’t used lip liner in a long time. I usually grab a gloss and go. Ellie showed me how to properly apply liner – along the true lip line (not inside or outside). She recommended to also color the upper and lower lips with the liner as it helps to preserve color and help the lipstick itself to stay longer.
Apply the lipstick with a lipstick brush as it will better smooth into the lip’s natural lines.
The Final Look
This new everyday makeup look is my new routine. I don’t go as heavy with the eyeshadow color – I keep it more neutral but now know how to build the color naturally, which is a game changer.
It takes me maybe 10 minutes every morning to apply. I end up applying lipgloss throughout the day, more so for moisturizing than anything.
What is your daily makeup routine? What products are your favorite? Comment below – I’d love to know!
If you’d like to schedule a lesson with Ellie, all you have to do is call up the nSpa (561) 278-8111. Tell her Pellerini sent you (and tell her I said hi!).

You look fabulous. I should try this. I admit, I don’t wear a lot of makeup so I end up just looking tired. I should at least start with some concealer for the dark circles under my eyes.

You know I’m 49 years old and I gave up on makeup a long time ago (although I continue to purchase it lol) and haven’t worn it in years. I grew up in a house of men so didn’t learn these things. This one blog post taught me more than I’ve ever known and actually gives me the confidence to give it a try! Maybe I’ll be able to get some use from all of the products! Thank you and I’m pinning it.

I am not sure about lipliner yet. I think it tends to make me look older (I am 61 so I don’t want any of that!) but I do love a deep lip color.

I wish I learned how to apply make up properly but growing up in an exclusive Catholic girls school (where wearing make up is strictly forbidden), it has given me the impression that I don’t need make up. Honestly, I think I do! These dark circles under my eyes need the best concealer out there in the market. My make up kit is concealer, lipstick, an eye-shadow palette and mascara.

One of my favorite easy makeup looks is using concealer instead of foundation. I apply it to the places I want to coverup or highlight. It keeps my skin looking like skin while also giving it a more evened out complexion.
