To me, a high heel shoe is like a work of art. This may sound silly, but I have caught myself falling in love with a few of them. They denote sexiness, power, and thankfully (in my case, at least) height! BUT based on this recent study, when you wear a pair of these gorgeous shoes, not only are you hurting your feet but you’re simultaneously affecting the whole alignment of your body – including your head and neck?!
Enter what I’ve dubbed “The New Power Shoe” – the flat! Yes, I will miss not being taller and NO I am not going to give away my heels, but I have to look out for my overall health – and buying some cool, flats will help! I gravitate toward Tory Burch’s Reva flats as they are both comfortable and come in practically every color,
TOMS for those casual days,
Madewell for a their d’orsay pointy-toe,
and my new faves, these J Crew slides that go with just about everything.
Aside for the four above, here are some more favorites!
THE CLASSIC BALLET: Ballet flats come in every color, print and price point you can imagine. They give off an air of femininity, while keeping your feet (and rest of your body) happy.
POINTY-TOED: I used to love pointy-toed heels. I mean, I still do love them but my back doesn’t. Pointy-toed flats it is, then!
D’ORSAY: I am a big fan of the d’orsay style. I feel they also represent femininity and aren’t as “boxy” as the ballet. You’ll notice that a lot of them incorporate the pointed toe as well.
SANDALS: Sandals, just like the other three types of flats mentioned above, can be dressy or casual. Nothing like a nice sandal to show off your newly-pedicured toes, right?! Here are some I’ve got my eye on.
Which style flats are your favorite?

I WAY prefer flats over heels. I’m all about comfort, and I’m glad research supports me when I reject heels for hurting my feet! I love Toms and how amazingly comfortable they are. If only they were a little dressier and I could wear them everywhere…
