It’s safe to say that we live in a society that discourages prioritizing physical and mental wellbeing. You may find that you are praised for working well over 80 hours a week, even if you are utterly exhausted. You may also be encouraged to go to work early, even though you haven’t had much sleep. All of these things can create competition in the workplace, such as who is working the hardest or even who is the most exhausted. Either way, this is certainly not good for your mental health or your physical health. If you want to do something about this because you are worried about your health, then these are the top signs that something needs to change.
You’re Constantly Sick and Catching Colds
If you feel as though you catch every single cold, flu, or virus out there then this could well be because your immune system simply isn’t up to the task when it comes to fighting off the virus. It may be that your immune system can be weakened by a huge range of factors, such as a poor exercise regimen or even loneliness. A weak immune system doesn’t just mean that you will catch every single bug out there, it also means that you will take way longer to recover as well. Everyone catches the occasional virus, but if you catch every single ailment going, then this is not a good sign to say the least. It’s a major sign that your health and your well-being is suffering.
You’re Constantly Tired
There really are so many reasons why you may be tired. If you suffer from insomnia or if you have a schedule that doesn’t allow you to have seven or even eight hours of sleep every night, then you have to make sure that you address this. If you are tired of too long, then this can cause you heart problems. You may even find that you suffer from impaired judgment, depression, and forgetfulness. Getting enough sleep is the cornerstone of self-care, so make the effort to talk with your doctor about your insomnia and make an effort to get enough sleep. Even though your schedule is jam-packed, you still need to try and make room for sleep because it is far more important than you’ll ever realize.
You Never Feel Great- Even When You’re Not Ill
You may not have a fever or even a cold, but if you constantly have a stomach ache, headaches, or even joint pains then this can be a sign that you have a medical condition that has not been diagnosed. On the flip side, it may be that your body is begging you to start taking much better care of it. Anxiety and stress will wreak havoc on your body, so make sure that you are utterly honest with yourself and speak with a therapist if you feel as though this is what you need to do. Again, physical symptoms like this could well mean that you are not getting enough sleep or that your diet is not healthy enough. You should be able to solve issues like this if you put in the work to take care of yourself.
You Can’t Remember the Last Time you Went to a Health Professional
Remember when your parents used to make all of your appointments for you? Unfortunately, those days are long gone. Sometimes you may not pay a visit to the doctor for years on end, and this is not good. Even if you feel great, you still need to stay on top of those regular appointments. This is especially the case if you are experiencing fatigue or if you are finding that you have chronic pain. Your doctor can give you a routine check-up and they can also give you tests to find out if you need to get some additional vitamins in your diet. Either way, if you go to the doctor on a regular basis then this will help you to know what’s going on with your body so that you can stop any issues before they become major. It’s also worth you visiting the dentist or even an audiologist if possible. Coping with hearing loss is not something you need to go through alone, and most of the time, there is a solution.
You’re Always on Edge
We are all human, and we all have moments when we feel frustrated over something absolutely ridiculous. If you always feel anxious or stressed out then your mental health will suffer. It’s a no-brainer that this will lead to you feeling anxious or annoyed. If you feel this way, then it’s a good idea for you to look at your self-care regime. This will give you the chance to make sure that you are not neglecting yourself more than you should be, and it will also help you to make sure that you are not compromising your mental or physical health.
You’re Not Putting Yourself First
It really does go without saying that being a good friend, a good partner or even a good family member involves making some sacrifices. You don’t always have to be the martyr though. It’s fine for you to set boundaries and it is also fine for you to act selfishly from time to time. Put yourself first and also make sure that you are seeking help when you need it. If you can do this, then you will soon find that you are able to really take care of the number one person in your life, which is, and always should be yourself.
Of course, if you are finding it hard to take care of your schedule then this is a sign that something needs to change. It may be that you need to change jobs or that you need to try and change your approach to work. Either way, if you don’t make a change and you carry on like you are, then things will never get better so you have to realize this.
