OK, I am probably going to regret writing this post because it is embarrassing but…maybe it will help someone one day.
Picture this…second grade. I was wearing super cute overalls with a matching jacket. As you probably surmised, this jacket had a zipper. The zipper got stuck and I couldn’t get it off. What does my teacher do – she sends me to the janitor LOL. The janitor could not loosen the zipper, so he sent me back to my classroom and said to maybe try and take the jacket off by slipping my arms out and shimmying it down to the floor.
I returned to the classroom and tried to what the janitor recommended. Weellllll, I didn’t realize that as I was pulling the jacket down, I had also grabbed the straps to my overalls. Yep…the jacket and my overalls fell to the floor and there I was in the middle of the class with no pants! Everyone could see my underwear! To make matters worse – I was wearing days-of-the-week underwear – and that pair I was wearing was the WRONG day. I never lived that down.
Now you know why I am posting about how to fix your zipper. If my teacher or the janitor knew this (or me but I was only 7), I wouldn’t have gone through that LOL. I learned of these cool tricks from a Real Simple email.
- To unstick a zipper use a graphite pencil or a bar of soap. Either one, when rubbed against the teeth of the zipper will loosed the teeth. There were many graphite pencils in my classroom that day – sob.
- If you lose the pull portion of the zipper, insert a paperclip. It works wonders in a pinch.
Here is a great article that embellishes on this interesting topic 🙂
