When I still had about 100 pages left of Discovery of Witches, I made sure to download Shadow of Night. What if I was inflight when I completed the first book? That would be terrible!
In awe of the love and intense relationship between Diana Bishop and Matthew de Clermont, I began reading Shadow of Night with so much excitement…and I was not disappointed. Their time travels to find the coveted book Ashmole 852, I feel, strengthened their relationship. Diana, a historian by profession, was able to meet some of the most well-known and knowledgeable people in history – William Shakespeare, Walter Raleigh, Queen Elizabeth, to name a few – with so much appreciation for their work (some of which they didn’t even know existed just yet). Remember telescope 🙂
The superb writing made this story unfold with ease, realistically, even with the smattering of daemons, wearhs, and witches. The reader really had to think twice if this was truly what happened way back in the late 1500’s – 1600’s. When Queen Elizabeth, or as Matthew called her “Lizzie” spoke to him, she knew he was a wearh – did they exist back then…do they now? I know it may sound silly, but it was so believable in print.
So much unfolds in the hundreds of pages of this book, and of course, the author has to leave you hanging at the end…it IS a trilogy. I can’t wait to talk about this book in-depth at my next book club meeting!
