*Please note I was gifted a pair of glasses in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are 100% my own! If you choose to purchase via one of the links in this post, it will not affect your purchase at all but will help me keep providing cool content!
I’ve been wearing glasses since I was in 5th grade (on an aside I got my glasses the same week I got braces – that was one memorable week for me). I remember going to the eye doctor and after the exam being told that I needed glasses. I don’t remember being to phased by it and little did I know I’d grow to love glasses as a cool (albeit necessary) accessory!
Fast forward to today and you can find me wearing one of 6 different pairs of glasses at any time. I’ve gathered a little collection that I am quite proud of! It was hard for me to determine which eyeglass frame was right for me so I took the interwebs to research.
There are a few different factors to take into consideration when picking out a pair of glasses.
- Face shape
- Trends
- Color
eyeglass frame factors
FACE SHAPE
Your face shape will very much be a determining factor when you choose your glasses.
- Square-shaped faces feature a prominent square jaw, so oval frames or even rounded rectangle frames work best to soften the face.
- Round faces look best with rectangular frames
- Heart-shaped faces tend to look great with rimless frames, or any frames that don’t make the top of your face look too “top heavy”.
- Oval-shaped faces are distinguished by high, broader cheek bones with the face getting narrower both at the forehead and chin. If this describes you, then you’re super lucky because just about any frame shape and style should work!
- Narrow faces look best with a larger frame (not necessarily wider) to break up the length of the face.
COLOR
Glasses come in every color imaginable, as well as clear. Choose a color that is going to compliment your skin tone. I took it a bit further and picked a few frames, each a different color or style to match my different fashion styles. I wear my brown Warby Parkers with different outfits than I do my edgier tortoise and metal cat eye Warby Parkers. I have a fabulous pair of dark red cat eyes that I purchased while on a work trip to Philadelphia that I wear with very select outfits.
TRENDS
There are two schools of thought when it comes to eyeglasses and trends. Do you go with the current trends when picking out your next pair OR do to stick with a classic style as these glasses will more than likely last you a few seasons, if not years?
If you opt for trendy frames, some of the more recent styles popping up are wire rimmed, bold colors and cat-eyes. One of my trendy frames is the Holcomb in pearled tortoise below.
If you go for a more classic style, I’d lean more toward a simpler pair, such as my Nedwins in amber.
THIS TIME AROUND
This time around I didn’t know which way to go – do I get another trendy pair or stay traditional and get a classic style? I was so undecided, I ordered a few different styles form Warby Parker to try on and turned to my Facebook friends for advice.
I couldn’t believe how many people offered their opinion! I was super torn between the top right (a classic style) and the bottom left (a new trend – the clear frame). I ended up returning all pairs and ordered five more – I wanted to totally be sure before I placed the order. All 5 of them were clear and these were the winners…
I love them! At first I was a bit on the fence but once I wore them for a few hours, I realized how versatile and fun they are!
The entire eyeglass buying process was a cinch – from choosing 5 frames to try-on at home (hello convenience), to picking out the winning pair, and the receiving them shortly after. I also love that for every pair sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need – their Buy One Give One program.
When I tell people how affordable they are, how well made they are, and what they do for people in need they are truly surprised. Warby Parker offers progressive lenses, reading glasses and of course sunglasses for both men and women. There are so many cool frames to choose from that it was really hard for me to make a final decision. See for yourself (no pun intended)!

Thank you for sharing your process. It can be really difficult to choose the perfect glasses for the way you look, and the search really is very troublesome for some people.
