I know, you never thought this day would come! (kidding). Today is the official National Peanut Butter Day! Here are some interesting facts about peanuts and peanut butter:
- It takes over 550 peanuts to make 12 ounces of peanut butter.
- Peanut butter is cholesterol free and a great source of protein.
- Peanut butter goes as far back as 1884, when a U.S. patent was given to Marcellus Gilmore Edson of Montreal.
My oldest son could live on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and, like myself, enjoys apple slices dipped in peanut butter. Last time I went to visit my sister, she made a filling breakfast of toasted whole wheat bread topped with peanut butter and apple slices. There are so many recipes that you can find with peanut butter as a main ingredient.
One fun activity that both of my boys did in preschool was to make Ants on a Log. All you have to do is cut the ends off of a few celery stalks. Fill the stalk in with peanut butter and then place raisins on the peanut butter.
Here are some recipes that I would love to try!
