I received an email that stated that Kraft Macaroni and Cheese contains artificial food dyes Yellow #5 and Yellow #6. These two additives are harmful – and are banned in many countries, but not in the U.S.! I grew up on Kraft Mac and Cheese and my oldest son LOVES it. If he could eat it for at least 2 out of the 3 meals a day, he would. (I snag a spoonful here and there when I am making it for him.)
Both Yellow #5 and #6 were removed from Kraft’s UK version due to their consumers’ out cries. You want to know why? Artificial food dyes are man made with chemicals derived from petroleum – yes the same ingredient in gasoline, tar, crude oil – yum, right? NO!
Both #5 and #6 are contaminated with carcinogens that are known to cause cancer. Maybe that’s one of the reasons Norway and Austria have banned it altogether?!
They are known to cause hyperactivity in children, affect their learning ability, and have NO nutritional value whatsoever. Aside from the U.S., countries require warning labels on any products that contain them – they are only used for aesthetic purposes.
Do a taste test and you will realize that there is no difference in taste or color…
I have since changed brands to Annie’s Homegrown Organic. You can find Annie’s mac and cheese right next to Kraft. It may be a bit more expensive, but that means nothing when it comes to the health of my children. I feel terrible that I have been feeding this product with additives to my son 🙁 No more!
