Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic struck, many families have been cooped up in their homes, self-isolating, and social-distancing. All this has been too overwhelming with new changes like working remotely and children studying online. It has been a challenging period for both children and parents who aren’t used to spending much time together. However, this is a perfect time to bond and have fun through the following indoor activities for families.
Test new recipes
One of the most challenging things to decide is what to eat, especially when the whole family is home. After being home for so long, you may find that you’ve exhausted all your usual recipes. However, there are many flavors and foodstuffs you’re yet to try, and with the kids at home, this is the perfect time to experiment with new recipes. You can find recipes online or mix different ingredients and flavors to create something new. Encourage your kids to help with the cooking for fun and learning purposes.
Play games
Kids require enough playtime with or without their friends. Being stuck indoors due to the COVID-19 took away valuable interaction with friends. For now, you all have to be playmates. Therefore, renew your crossword puzzle subscription, and invest in other indoor games like chess, Sudoku, pool, table tennis, and online video games. If you have a family member who isn’t around, include them through virtual platforms like zoom.
Tell stories
Before COVID-19, the only time parents and children got to spend quality time together was during meals or the holidays. Now there’s more time, and you can use it to share your family history and stories with your children. Share real-life stories of your country’s history and the world, tell stories from books you’ve read, or invent your own. You can schedule a time when you put away all the electronic devices and compete in telling the best stories.
Watch movies
Watching movies is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Apart from drive-in movies, most of the theatres shut down to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Set apart movie time on specific days after work and online studies. Be sure to make it memorable by getting cozy in your living room with warm blankets, snacks, and drinks. Let everyone have a say in picking movies. Alternatively, everyone can have their day to pick a movie.
Try DIY home projects
With so much time on your hands, this is the perfect time to make renovations or repairs at home. Establish areas that need work and buy the necessary equipment. Let your kids pick paint colors and décor for their rooms, and include them in the project. Declutter your home, sell or donate what you don’t need, and clean the house. Refurbish particular items to make them look newer and rearrange the furniture to give your home a unique feel.
Bottom line
Stay indoors to social distance safely and keep your children healthy. Engage in fun indoor activities to kill the boredom of self-isolation, like playing games, watching movies, testing new recipes, and telling stories. Use this time to renovate or make necessary repairs at home through DIY projects, and be sure to include your kids.
