There is definitely a day for just about everything…this happens to be a most delicious one! One of my dad’s favorite dishes is good old spaghetti and meatballs. When in doubt, order that and you’ll never regret it! Here is the recipe that I use for my spaghetti sauce:
HOMEMADE SPAGHETTI SAUCE
INGREDIENTS
- 2 large cans of crushed tomatoes (we’ve been using Cento a lot but there are a lot of good brands out there to try)
- 1 can tomato paste
- Olive oil
- Garlic clove – minced
- Onion – chopped (by my husband because my eyes cannot take cutting onions. I could walk into the house 15 minutes after he cut an onion and my eyes will start to sting)
- Oregano
- Basil
- Parsley
- Grated parmesan cheese
DIRECTIONS
First I add a little bit of olive oil to the bottom of the pot (heat level is med-high) – just to cover the bottom. I then add the garlic and onion and let that brown – not too much though! Once the garlic and onion have browned, I add the two cans of crushed tomatoes and the one can of tomato paste. I mix it really well and then add in the other spices. You can add/omit any spices you like and make it your own! I put the heat on simmer and leave it for about 2 hours. Add spaghetti and you’re done!
