Soooooo, how was your 4th of July?
Ours was a lot of fun! We went to a local resort, figuring it would be easier to drive 30 minutes and arrive at a place that looks like heaven rather than boarding an airplane and dealing with the hustle and bustle of traveling on a plane with the two boys. Not that we didn’t pack like we were going to a faraway island…the amount of bags we had in the trunk of the car was a little insane. Maybe I packed that much because I was in the mindset that we didn’t have to pay for checked baggage? LOL
Either way, when the bellman came to our car to unpack the baggage, he asked us the usual question, “Where are you from?” When we answered a city that was a half-hour away – he gave us a look…I just laughed and walked into the lobby. I pack like my family cooks – for an army. It’s in the genes I think.
The boys, for some reason, LOVE hotel rooms. When we go to Disney and check into the hotel, my husband and I always ask if we really even need to go to the parks…they are so enthralled by the hotel room itself, who needs anything else?!? The boys chose their bed and began to unpack their necessities – Pokemon figurines and cards, electric toothbrush, books, stuffed animals, goggles, and a juice box (don’t know where that came from…). One thing I recommend when traveling with kids…ask the front desk if you could rent a fridge for the room. We brought bottles of water (and wine), juice boxes and cut up fruit and veggies. Resorts can get a bit pricey and the convenience of having these items in the room are great too!
Once the boys put their clothes in the drawers, we were ready to hit the pool. It’s so nice that they can swim confidently now…I can actually sit on a lounge chair (of course right at the pool’s edge) and not have to be in the pool at all times. Pool time lasted about an hour and a half before we heard rumblings of hunger.
I am trying to be really good about what I eat, so I ordered the rotisserie chicken (so delish) with veggies and one of my favorite glasses of pinot noir Belle Glos 🙂
Day Two of vacation was sooooooooo much fun – it was the 4th! I worked out, we had a quick breakfast and then dropped the kids off to the resort camp while my husband and I went to our “camp” – the spa! I had a Swedish massage with the same therapist that I had when I went to this resort with my friend a few weeks ago. I fell asleep 2x…GREAT massage! We grabbed lunch by the pool and were eager to pick the boys up and go to the beach! Beach time didn’t last too long before they wanted to go back to the pool (translation – pick up all of the toys, towels, and sand-filled bodies and drag it all back to the pool). After the pool, we tried super hard to get the boys to nap as the fireworks would not begin until 9 pm (that’s past my bedtime LOL). G and I fell asleep. I got up, but he didn’t. 8 o’clock came around and G was not getting up, so my husband went to the beach with N while I caught up on reading my Book Club book.
Long story short (I say that NOW, right? LOL) – N swam in the ocean for 40 minutes before the fireworks show started. My husband wrapped him in a towel, and before the first firework was seen, N was passed out on a lounge chair. G got up at 8:45 pm so I set up chairs on the balcony. We couldn’t see anything so resorted to the next best thing – the Macy’s fireworks show on TV!
