Find Me Gluten-Free: Eating Out on a Specialized Diet
Anyone who’s attempted shifting to a specialized diet will tell you that it’s not always easy, especially as we’ve gotten used to doing things on a conventional diet, and while we may be able to get around most diet needs by learning to cook our own recipes, when it comes to eating out, things get even harder. While there are now more and more organic stores and farmer’s markets out there, gluten-free is even harder to come by.
There’s more awareness being raised for Celiac disease, however, and this means that options for gluten-free dining are growing as well. In New York, special delivery services have been established for gluten-free food delivery, and with FDA regulations having been improved so that gluten-free now really does mean gluten-free, we can now trust restaurants who offer gluten-free options to give us what we really need.
If you miss dining out but don’t know where to get started and don’t know any gluten-free restaurants in your area, don’t worry, as a new app may be able to help you find restaurants on your phone. According to the company that adopted Free Bingo Hunter in 2013, growth in mobile internet is among the fastest trends on the internet landscape to date, and this means that there are now many apps that aim to make the gluten-free lifestyle easier to maintain.
Find Me Gluten Free is one of those specialized services that help you find local dining establishments, and it’s run by a community of over 2 million people who help to maintain and improve information stored on their database. They even have a box-of-the-month club so you can experience all that there is in the world of gluten-free and discover new great products. The community uploads information on new restaurants, as well as photos of some of the options offered, and earlier this year, Find Me Gluten Free launched mobile apps on both the Google Play Store and the iTunes App Store, making maintaining a gluten-free lifestyle all the more easier.
Find Me Gluten Free is among the best apps in its category, because information on the app is well-organized, and there’s a lot of in-depth information for those in search of it. You can even see allergy listings and contact restaurants right from within the app, as well as find updated menus for the restaurants.
Do you use any other restaurant finding app?

This is awesome! Fortunately, I don’t struggle with any food restrictions, but a close friend is gluten, dairy, and nut intolerant. So, while I don’t have to look for food safe recipes on a normal basis, whenever I go to her place for a dinner party and look for something to make to bring, I appreciate the challenge it is to find something that works! I’ll pass this along to her in case she’s unaware of this app. Thanks for sharing it!

Vicky, thank you for passing this along to your friend! I am gluten-sensitive and this really helps out when I’m trying to find a restaurant that offers gluten-free . BTW, if you have a P.F. Changs, Cheesecake Factory or Grand Luxe nearby – those are all great options for meals out with your close friend…they are very diet-sensitive!
