Ever dream of a spa day but can’t seem to find the time (or money)? Self-care is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. It comes in many forms, some activities only taking 5 minutes, some a bit more.
Here are some great ways you can create a DIY at home spa day, or break these ideas up into a few afternoons or evenings.
For Your Face
Although I really love a relaxing facial done at a spa, there are more times than less that I can’t make it there. My free time dwindles during sports season, so I found a way to make the best of whatever little pockets of free time I find!
Paper Face Masks
Up there with the invention of sliced bread, paper face masks are amazing! Depending on your skin type or desired result, you can choose from hundreds of different brands’ offerings.
All you have to do is remove the paper mask from the packaging and put it on your face. Seriously.
Read the directions to see how long they recommend you leave it on for and if you need to rinse your face with water after or can simply rub in the rest of the product.
TIP: I always make sure I squeeze out every little bit of product to use!
Here are some of my favorite face masks, both paper and traditional:
Lip Scrubs
A good lip scrub can work wonders! These specialized scrubs get rid of dead, dry skin. Here are some of my favorites:
Eye Masks
I never knew about eye masks until recently. Depending on what you want to achieve, these masks can help with puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles, dark circles, or all of the above!
Here are some of my favorite eye masks:
For Your Body
Bath Time
I love a good, warm bath. My muscles scream for it on some days. There are many different products you can get – bath bombs, bath salts, epsom salts (perfect for those achy muscles), and bubble bath.
Here are some of my favorite bath products, including some cool pillows to make it even more comfy!
Don’t Forget Your Hands
Hands can show your age – I’m noticing that with my hands and have been looking for products. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity, hence the increased visibility of veins. YUCK.
Here are some hand treatments that I have tested and like:
For Your Feet
Foot Soak
It’s amazing what a good foot soak can do to relax you. There are so many different ones to choose from – some just to relax the muscles, soften the skin, or detox.
Here are some that I like. All you have to do is add them to hot water. If you have a foot bath, that’s a plus!
DIY Pedicure
I wish I could do DIY pedicures. Ever since I hurt my back, I’m like an old lady in that I can’t bend over. BUT I am sure you can do one! All you need to do is:
- Soak your feet in warm water, preferably with bath salts or a foot soak
- Use a pumice stone to soften the skin on our heel (and in my case, beneath my big toes – sorry if TMI!)
- Apply a cuticle softener and gently push back your cuticles. Also, this is a good time to apply some moisturizing foot lotion!
- Cut/file your nails down to your optimal length – not too short to prevent ingrown toenails, but not too long to be annoying when wearing closed toe shoes.
- Swipe a cotton ball doused with nail polish remover over each of your toenails to remove any excess lotion.
- Use some super cute toe separators and then begin polishing – starting with a base coat, 2 coats of the color of choice, and then a top coat.
For Your Hair
Hair Masks
I remember telling one of my friends about how much I love applying a hair mask every week. It really helps to relieve my dry ends. I think I started an obsession with her as well…use the right one and you’ll understand why!
Here are my favorites!
Overall Vibe
You need to set the mood. Relaxation, serenity, quiet…any or all of the above.
Candles
Candles set the mood both with the soft lighting and amazing scents. I recommend trying these candles:
Aromatherapy
It took me a long time to get on the aromatherapy wagon, but once I did I realized what I was missing. I purchased a highly-rated, inexpensive diffuser but did the heavy research on oils.
Scents like lavender and lemon are great to either elicit relaxation or energy.
Cozy Loungewear
Why not be comfy in what you’re wearing while you’re pampering yourself?! Here are some favorite pieces I like to wear while trying to find my zen.
I hope this inspires you to take some time to give yourself some well-needed pampering! I’d love to hear about more recommendations – please comment below!

Spa day at home is the best for me as I want to relax but don’t want other people touching me. I’m not a germaphobe or anything. I’m just too shy to be barely clothed with other people in closed-quarters. Love these ideas. Thanks!
