In honor of Julia Child’s 100th birthday, I felt it would be fitting to introduce you to a duo of cooking “greats” – the Two Fat Ladies. They were initially introduced to me by a work friend…this is how it came about…
Picture this: I am sitting at work with my team, just having completed a Google+ video meeting with one of our creative teams, when we see on my Google + home page that it would be Ms. Child’s 100th birthday. (I do feel bad for this next part, but…) We started joking around about her voice, with one of us doing a pretty darn good impression. LOL. Julia was a culinary wonder in her time, but her voice is definitely impressionable along with her cooking abilities. That’s what sparked our introduction to the Two Fat Ladies. Clarissa Dickson Wright and Jennifer Patterson are the “Two Fat Ladies” – a well-known pair of chefs based out of the United Kingdom. Their cooking show was originally aired on BBC Two and then appeared on The Food Network. I believe you can still catch them on the Cooking Channel.
Of course, we had to check them out on YouTube. The intro is hysterical…they travel through the countryside on a Watsonian GP-700 “doublewide” sidecar. I am laughing already and the video was only playing for seven seconds.
The video we perused was titled, “Two Fat Ladies: Lunch”. What a lunch they were making!! Stuffed pork loin and clam chowder. If I ate that heavy of lunch, I would be snoring at my desk shortly after! I love their accents and comical phrases. The ladies are openly against vegetarians and you will hear a comment made in the YouTube video below. From what I understand, they end some of their shows smoking a cigarette and drinking an alcoholic beverage. They are so entertaining in their own way, and to be honest…I think I may make that pork roast…but for dinner.
and…you know you are famous when there is a skit on Saturday Night Live about you and your show!!
