I have always loved to travel – it’s something that I’m very passionate about. Of course, it was a lot easier to go on vacation before I had little ones to think about, but I haven’t let having a family stop me from seeing the world. Now I just take them along for the ride! Luckily, my family is also passionate about travel and love going away.
The main issue when traveling with the whole family is the cost; a family vacation is triple as expensive as traveling solo, sometimes more. However, just because family travel can be costly, that doesn’t have to stop you. If you’re smart about the times when you travel, whom you book through and where you go, family vacations can be affordable.

To help make family travel more affordable, these are the tips that I swear by. Hopefully, you’ll find them as helpful as I do.
Travel out of season
One of the best ways to save money on travel is by choosing to go out of season; the price drops are fantastic. Depending on where you choose to travel, you could pay half the price that you would in the super popular months.
While the weather might not be quite so hot, the money you’ll save makes it worth the compromise. You’ll also find that the attractions, restaurants, and bars charge lower prices out of season. So overall, your vacation will be more affordable.
Save on flights
If you don’t already have a credit card that allows you to accumulate air miles, now is the time to get one. If you allow your air miles to build up, you can get your flights for free, pretty amazing, right? There’s nothing better than free air travel, especially when plane tickets are so expensive.
Another option for getting cheap flights is booking in advance or last minute, as this is when flights tend to be cheapest. You’ll also find that the prices of flights via discount plane companies can be much more affordable. You might not get a free meal, but at least your tickets will be affordable.
Book package deals
One of the best ways to save money on the cost of your vacation is by booking an all-inclusive package deal. For all the best deals on family vacations, check out the Hotwire website. Here you’ll find lots of family vacations to choose from, so whatever type of break you want, you’re covered.
By choosing a holiday that comes with flights, transfers and luggage costs included, travel is more affordable. You can even opt to have all your food and drink included once you arrive at the hotel.
Book tickets for attractions in advance
If there are a lot of things that you want to see and do, but the cost is holding you back, book tickets in advance. By booking in advance, you’ll be able to save money on the cost of visiting certain attractions. This will help to make your trip more affordable, as the cost while you are there will be lower.

I’m actually a travel agent that specializes only in Disney vacation planning -and your tips are spot on. I tell everyone to book EARLY for the best deals. In particular, with Disney savings, using an earmarked, authorized Disney Vacation Planning service will ensure that you have someone monitoring your reservations for additional discounts –and it is 100% FREE service that is offered.
I also advise to put on airfare alerts, too.
And ideally, book a package deal like you suggest. In fact, booking room, park tickets and a dining plan will save in the long run -especially if you’re staying 3 days or more in a resort.
Nice blog post! 🙂

Thanks Victoria! Airfare alerts is a great addition as well…I didn’t think of that! I’ll keep you in mind for when we book our next Disney vacay!

I agree with travelling off season for certain destinations – you’ll end up saving hundreds of dollars. Also by booking airfare and hotel together can give you more savings too.

Off season does it for me too!!
