I know I am not the first person to “coin” Tuesdays as Turkey Taco Tuesdays. This meal is so super easy and fun for the kids (that like tacos…my little one still eats chicken nuggets instead. One day he’ll realize what he’s missing). Tuesdays we have karate after school, so we are in need of something fast and delish.
We brown the turkey meat and then add Taco Bell seasoning and let it simmer according to the package directions. You can also create your own taco seasonings, but I love Taco Bell. Taco Bell used to be the only Mexican food I ate until my friends Lauren and Dara brought me to a local Mexican joint for lunch one day. I have since broadened my Mexican horizons but still love Taco Bell.
While the meat is browning, my husband warms the soft tortillas on the stovetop and prepares the fixings. This is the fun part because your dinner guests can make their taco however they’d like. Some great fixings include:
- Guacamole
- Shredded Lettuce (you can chop/shred the lettuce yourself, but if you’re in a rush the supermarkets have the shredded lettuce in bags in the produce section
- Chopped tomatoes (or you can use salsa)
- Chopped onions (chopped by the husband)
- Shredded cheese (you can shred your own or if you are me you will get the bag of already shredded cheese in the dairy section)
- Beans
- Corn
- Sour cream
We also make rice and mix it with some of the taco seasonings.

Delish! I like using turkey in tacos, too, for in another dishes like meatballs. We stay away from the taco seasoning, though, because of hidden MSG and use cumin, chili powder and garlic instead.

So interesting that you mentioned the MSG in the taco seasonings…my friend told me the same thing this afternoon!! I had no idea…I am going to make my own from now on!
