When it comes to purchasing gifts for kids, it can be a lot harder than one thinks. I personally like to pick unique gifts that are both practical and ones that once opened don’t get tossed to the side. (I’ve bought my share of those…no more wasting money!)
I always ask the parents what the kiddos would like to get an idea of what they are in to. If it is something straightforward like a Malibu Barbie (totally dating myself now), I will be able to easily check that recipient off my list! I actually love when they say, “Get a board game/book/clothes” because that gives me a creative license!
For the Adventurer
I’m all for enriching little ones’ minds whenever I can find the chance. When my boys were little we would go to the park and see how many new and different things we could find. Whether it was a cool leaf on the ground, a bug they had never seen before or simply a new place to take a break and hang out, we always came home with great stories!
The boys would bring with them a bag to collect their findings, so when I saw these super cute Billy GoGo adventure packs, memories came floating back! The backpacks are perfect for that 4-8 year old on your list that loves to explore! It’s super lightweight and the perfect size to carry their snacks or lunch, a water bottle, sunscreen, and camera! It comes in three styles, each named after a different goat.
You can also purchase fun sticker sheets and field notebooks – accessories any little explorer would love to have! Check them out on Instagram and Pinterest! You can purchase the packs online at http://www.billygogo.com.
For the Board Game Lover
I am a huge board game aficionado. I love spending time with the boys and board games are the perfect way to get the whole family together. Another thing I love about board games is that there is a game for everyone. There are even older favorites such as Monopoly that now have editions targeting certain interests such as Despicable Me (a favorite in our house), wine, certain colleges and sports teams.
We love Utter Nonsense: Family Edition because it allows us to be silly as a family! An accent card is chosen and then each of the players has to choose and say one of their phrases in that particular accent. I dare you not to crack up after the first attempt! You can purchase the Family Edition version or the Naughty version (definitely NOT for kiddos) online!
For the Techie
Osmo is awesome! I purchased the coding games for my boys and just came across the Genius Kit…that may end up under the tree this year!
All you need to do is add your iPad and your child will have hours of fun with core subjects such as math and spelling. Tangram helps them with visual thinking, Newton helps with problem-solving and Masterpiece (my fave) aids in creative drawing skills. The best part – my boys are learning in such a fun way!
For the Star Wars Fanatic
Want to be remembered as the coolest person ever to the Star Wars fan on your list? Check out this R2-D2 app-enabled droid! Between the holographic simulation, integrated speakers and LEDs, and ability to alter the code – the gift recipient may not know what to try out first!
I’ll be adding gift ideas as I find them, so be sure to stay tuned! Please note that some of the links are affiliate links. This means that if you purchase via one of the links, I may receive compensation.
Check out my Gift Guide for the Sports Fanatic too!

I have a 2 and 4 year old, and if you get them anything with construction vehicles, they’d be very happy! My youngest loves Minions as well, and I bet he’d be more excited about the new wrapping paper I bought than the contents, haha! This is a great list of suggestions for those needing them!
