After realizing that the Learning Express Livingsocial certificates were going to expire TOMORROW (!!!), I thought it would be nice to take the boys there and let them pick out something fun (and hopefully educational). It may have not been the best night to take them, but I was on a deadline. Why was it not the best night? They were bickering from the time I got home from work, through dinner, and on the way to the store.
As soon as we entered Learning Express, their moods changed drastically! This store is a wonderland of super cool toys and games. G picked out a Ninjago spinner, two Lego miniature figurines and a little scratch art pad. Sounds like it took 2 minutes, right? I wish!! I explained to him that he had $20, hoping to turn this experience into a math lesson as well…not so much. If I told him an item was more than the $20 he would say, “Oh, ok”, pick the toy up and walk away. Note to self…need to work on math skills with him!
N picked out a book (YAY!), Pokemon cards (boo), and a little scratch art pad. Me – I could have browsed all night but considering that they were closing within the half hour, I picked up:
- Super cute, washable placemats with the boys’ names on them
- These red buttons that look like the Staples EASY button, but has NO on top, and each time you press it you hear “NO” in many different voices and ways. I love it!! The boys were asking if they could have this or that, and my husband was walking around after them, pressing the button – “N-O” “Noooooooooooo” “Nope”
- Two African Dwarf Frogs!
I know…what am I doing with frogs?
A long time ago I had a firebelly newt…poor guy. No one told me that he needed a HEAT lamp. Well these frogs are effortless. They live in a cute plastic cube with fun-colored pebbles, a little bamboo plant and a rock. You feed them twice a week. The tank needs to be cleaned 2 to 3 times a YEAR!! That is my kind of pet. This is the care kit I purchased for my new friends.
The kit includes food, a net, and a turkey baster. Yes, a turkey baster. You use that to remove the water from the small tank, when you need to clean it. These slimy guys require room temperature spring water.
They are cute in an amphibian kind of way. I asked the boys to name them. That was fun!
The darker one is G’s and the lighter one is N’s.
Please welcome Nimrod Maddox and James Alexander to our family. Guess which boy picked which name?
