This is the first year that I’ve heard of Galentine’s Day, but apparently this day has been around since 2010. Created by Parks and Recreation’s Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), it falls on the day before Valentine’s Day and is a perfect opportunity (and excuse) to honor and celebrate your bestest of friends.
Now that I know about this special occasion, I wanted to research and share some fun ways to observe it!

CREATIVE FUN
What’s more fun than learning to paint on canvas and enjoying a glass or two of wine while doing so? Depending on the number of friends attending, you may want to call ahead to reserve spots. Also check to see if it is BYOB or if you can purchase by the glass there.
SLEEPOVER!
When I was younger I used to love going to sleepovers at my friends’ homes. We would watch a movie, gorge on popcorn and gossip. Now that I’m a bit older, I’d love the opportunity to get some friends together, watch a fun chick flick and just chill out for the night. Obviously minus the requisite freezing the bra of the person that fell asleep first OR putting that poor person’s fingers in water to see if they’d pee in their sleep.
DINNER WITH THE DAMES
Is there a restaurant that you are all dying to go to and are in need of a holiday. Here’s the perfect one! Dress up in your favorite going out attire and toast to everlasting friendship.
PARTY IN THE PARK
Want to plan something for daylight hours? Determine what each friend is going to contribute to create a super fun picnic in the park (or maybe indoors if you are experiencing the snow storms!). Lay out a blanket, put on some fun tunes, relax and enjoy the time together.
ONLY HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME?
Meet your BFFs at a local coffee shop, order a cup of joe and talk about when you ladies first met; funny things that happened; what your first impression was of each other. Another option is the absolute best way to wind down after a busy work day or hectic afternoon with the family – a happy hour amongst your best lady friends.
When it really comes down to it, your Galentines are the ones that understand you – your quirky sense of humor and your mood swings. They can sometimes even finish your sentences or entire thoughts.
I personally believe that there shouldn’t be just one day to celebrate them, but it’s a start! What do you plan on doing to celebrate your Galentines?

This is awesome! I’ve only just heard of the phrase “galentine’s day” in the past few days but now I’m seeing it everywhere and loving it more and more. One of my girlfriends and I are going to get brunch the morning of valentine’s day, so yayyy 🙂 But seriously, a sleepover does sound nostalgically fun.

I saw the title of your post and immediately loved it because…Leslie Knope is the best friend a girl could ever have! I love the idea of sharing Valentine’s Day with the girls because often it just gets so overrated and commercialized that it doesn’t feel special to be with your man. Thanks for these ideas!

I love that you love Leslie Knope too!!!
