Tomorrow is a very special day in that it is International Day of the Girl. Observed worldwide, this day is designated for communities and policymakers to come together and figure out how we can end discrimination against girls and create opportunities for them to reach their full potential.
All over the world girls are restricted from education, forced into marriage, abused and even trafficked. It sickens me that in this day and age, this occurs. Save the Children is working on bringing light to this horrific situation, namely with International Day of the Girl.
“Save the Children is committed to making a difference for every last girl,” said Carolyn Miles, president & CEO of Save the Children. “Throughout the world, girls face higher rates of violence, poverty and discrimination. On the ladder of opportunity, girls are often left behind on the bottom rung. That’s why today – and every day – Save the Children is shining a light on girls. We are thrilled to celebrate International Day of the Girl with the help of Dakota Fanning, some of our powerful girl supporters and the Empire State Building. Together, we’ll do whatever it takes to empower the world’s girls so they can grow up healthy, educated and safe.”
There are many ways you can help to make a difference. Help Save the Children ensure that these girls grow up safe, healthy and educated by donating today.
Also, Save the Children is working on helping children whom are victims of Hurricane Matthew, as well as collecting donations to help keep half a million children out of the line of fire in Mogul, Iraq.
