My mom and dad were reminiscing over old photos and documents and came across this article by Erma Bombeck. Even though my boys are only 8 and 5, I can appreciate this article very much – and will save it for my boys to read when they get older and have children of their own.
UPDATE: I still revert back to this one Erma Bombeck essay. Even though it was published back in 1975, it still rings true today.
As my boys get older, it resonates with me in different ways. Reading it over and over through the years allows for me to reflect on how much my parents really did (and still do) love me – how it was hard to parent, but everything they said and did was manifested from love for my sister and me.
When was the last time you called your parents and told them, “Thank You!”? You could have been the easiest child to raise, but I am sure there were some trying times. I see it all now as I raise my boys.

Love you more

Of course I still have it! I didn’t mean to make you cry mama, but I am glad you shared it with me 🙂 I love you!

You brought a year to my eyes with this article. I’m 79 years old..
and read everything Erma Bombeck wrote: when I lived on my beloved Long Island years ago.
She was a very special person and so full of wisdom.
Thank you for reminding me of her.
Regards

Hi Judith, I am so glad I could remind you of Erma! I grew up reading Erma Bombeck too. My mom introduced me to her writings. I used to live on Long Island as well!
