After reading a very long trilogy, the Divergent series, I was hoping the next Book Club book of choice would be a bit “lighter”. Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline, was the next novel for our group of avid readers to delve into. When I read the book description I wasn’t fully sold on the story line, but seeing that it was only a little over 250 pages – that part did lend to my request for a “lighter” read.
I just finished reading Orphan Train and wow, am I so glad it was chosen!! I would not have normally picked it – one of the main reasons why I joined the book club. Reading Between the Wines opens my eyes to new authors and books I would have otherwise possibly overlooked.
Molly is an orphan, bouncing from foster home to foster home. Because she stole a book from the local library, she is forced to either complete 50 hours of community service or go to juvenile detention. Choosing the former, and getting the opportunity to do so through her boyfriend’s mother’s employer, Molly is introduced to Vivian – a 91 year old widow.
I don’t want to give away the whole book, but it goes to show you that people can be very similar, regardless of age. I highly recommend reading Orphan Train and am very excited to hear what everyone has to say at Book Club next week!
Here’s a list of books I would like to read in 2014 – I am sure I will be adding more as time goes on.
Note: I wrote about this book because I truly enjoyed it. I wasn’t asked to do so and purchased the book on my own. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!
