We’ve been traditionally taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal.
BACK IN THE DAY…
When I was younger, I was able to eat anything and everything I wanted without abandon and not gain an ounce. Oh, and it didn’t matter what time of day too…
I actually had a hard time gaining weight, and remember my doctor telling me that my metabolism would slow down once I had children, so I should enjoy it while I could. (And I most definitely did!)
Now I look back and am living exactly what he said…my metabolism has slowed and I definitely can’t eat what I want. I’m OK with not eating the entire bag of Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies and potato chips, but am not OK with my pants feeling snug and not feeling great in my own skin.
I’ve started reading Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion and cannot wait to see the results.
WHY AM I DOING THIS?
I’m choosing to follow this three-phase plan with the following goals in mind:
- Lose weight
- More energy to keep up with my kids and Stella, my crazy puppy
- Boost my metabolism
- Sleep better at night
WHAT IS THE ALWAYS EAT AFTER 7 PM PLAN?
The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good.
MYTH #1: BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY
I was told since as far back as I can remember that I had to have breakfast every morning. How was I going to have the energy to get through the school/work day? Breakfast was supposedly the fuel needed to start the day and trek through.
About 4 months ago, I ignored that ideology and started intermittent fasting (IF). I wouldn’t have the first meal of my day until 12 or 1pm each day. I wake up in the AM, have a glass of water and follow it with iced coffee – black, no sweetener.
When I first started IF, I thought I was going to pass out not eating until at least noon. It’s ALL in your mind. The iced coffee kept me satiated, as did water.
When I learned that this is one of the first steps in the Always Eat After 7 PM plan I was super excited because I already do it!
“Those who ate breakfast ended up eating about 260 calories more a day, the review found. Those who skipped breakfast were about one pound lighter than those who ate breakfast. These findings led the researchers to conclude that eating breakfast isn’t necessarily a good strategy for losing weight. The science isn’t really there. Breakfast could very well be the least important meal of the day.”
I would absolutely love if you’d join me on my journey with Always Eat After 7 PM. Each week for the next three weeks I am going to update you on my progress. (This will totally keep me accountable!)
